Ice cream here is delicious, but whoever owns or manages this store needs to hire more folks or better customer service. Ordered on uber eats, waited 40 minutes, asked when it was the 25 min mark because folks I saw ordering after me were getting their orders. When I asked again, they noted how busy they were and they couldn’t get to my order?
This tells me they don’t have a good system in place, whatever orders come in mobile or walk-in should have a queue. I asked again finally because it was getting late and my kids were getting impatient. They basically told me to cancel my order, which I did.
Note for everyone else, they are always short-staffed & their system sucks expect to wait 30 or more minutes. You can barely ask anyone questions. Whoever owns this spot needs to understand, there are so many other options in this area for dessert.
[Update: store told me to cancel my uber eats order and I was charged, basically waiting 40+ minutes for nothing. Uber is also not going to refund me because I canceled this order & not the store]. Been going there for 5+ years, love the tastes and the young guys working there. Met the manager today and he went the extra mile to help my daughter with autism. A manager who loves his customers surely has something good to offer. Recommend.

For the amount you pay and the place it is. Ambience is zero. I understand inflation has hit but these guys have doubled the prices since Covid. Not worth it. Most of the time if you order an icicle with strawberry topping they are out of strawberry but they would charge you for that.

What do you call this type of ice cream? The one made by spreading it thinly on a cold plate, freezing it, and then rolling it up. It was a trend a few years ago, but there’s still one place left in downtown San Mateo.
I do like ice cream, but this isn’t really about the taste of the ice cream itself—it’s more about the fun of watching it being made on the cold plate. Kids find it fascinating, and they end up eating it all up with delight.

There are many ice cream places in San Mateo within a radius of 200 ft of this, but Icicles is the best. Add Mochi on top as much as you can, you won't regret it :-)
This place is my favorite ice cream spot! The bravocado is my favorite and the rolled texture is so unique. My usual to-go spot.

WHEN this place is open it's great. The hours here are really weird though so like sometimes in the middle of the day like 2:00 or 3:00 PM it will be closed but it will be open at like 8:00 or 9:00 PM.
Vegetarian options: Ice cream.

Parking: Street parking is limited at times but there are lots of parking lots nearby.
