We had skipped breakfast and lunch while we did some sightseeing/a nature walk and walked into Achilles ready to EAT. The bottom line: Achilles totally delivered. First off, the wraps were hefty and packed. The chicken shawarma was ridiculously good! Spicy, tangy, and juicy. I fell in love with shawarma in Portland and have been looking for my shawarma fix ever since. We also loved the falafel wrap. The wraps had a great balance of meat, veggies, and sauce. I am the person that would typically need a bunch of extra sauce on the side to compensate but the flavor was so well balanced that I felt like I didn't need any. Next up, we have the desserts. The Turkish delights were brand new to us. The first thing you notice are the amazing flavors like pomegranate, saffron, or hazelnut, but what will make you eat the whole box is the texture experience. The chewy roll mixed with the crunch of pistachios, rose petals, or coconut etc, make for a really unique tactile experience. The food would speak for itself but Elias & Chris also went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. Elias was passionate about his food, ready to share about it, and even gave us a sample of Labneh. Like everything else, it was fantastic. Creamy, tangy yogurt that was thick enough to spread like a soft cheese paired with hot bread. We are absolutely stuffed and will definitely come back for more dates in the future.
I had them cater a work party and they exceeded my every expectation. I talked with Elias (owner) on the phone after scheduling online. He confirmed everything and even provided some bonus treats for my party. The food was delicious! Thanks Elias and team for going above and beyond.
I recommend this restaurant because the food there so tasty and good and the people that work there really make feel welcome and they get you the food so fast it was amazing...and it's a great location in town
Love Mediterranean food and had been wanting to visit this place since they opened. Wasn't disappointed! Got the vegetarian falafel plate with the works and everything had a great flavor. Next time may want to get pita to help finish off the included sides, but other than that it was a decent amount of food for the price. Also tried their lentil soup which was excellent for a cold night.
I had the falafel wrap with tzatziki sauce and now Im hooked. I dont think Ill ever want Mexican burritto again as the Achilles's wrap is so much more rich in flavor and hearty. The owner, Elias, is a super cool dude too who owns another restaurant in Santa Clara. He has the Santa Cruz positive vibes.
This place was a delicious surprise! I loved absolutely everything I've tried. This is coming from someone who has lived in Athens, Greece. The staff were kind and helpful. The portions were large. I tried the spicy falafel & gyros plate with all the sides. My only negative critiques.are that the inside and bathroom haven't been updated since this was a Taco bell. Also, my halva was too sweet. Other than that, I will definitely be back!
The best shawarma ever tried, they have so many different add-ons to choose from and they all taste great. The hosts were very nice and friendly. The resturant is cozy and chill. You'll love it there.
The food was heavenly delicious, they have a great selection of middle eastern foods. the service is quick and friendly. A must visit if you're close.
What a find! Wow I am blown away by how good the food is. My wife and I ordered the falafel plate and vegan baklava. Absolutely delicious!!! Hands down the best falafel I've ever eaten. The pita bread was warm and fluffy. YUM! The owner even gave us a cup of the lentil soup to try, and yes it was delicious as well. I am so happy Achilles by the sea opened up because this is my new go to lunch spot. Highly recommend this place.
Came for a late lunch on Veterans Day. Parking is super easy since they have their own parking lot. Elias was at the counter, helped us navigate through the menu. It's easiest to look through the paper menu and go through steps 1, 2 and 3. We got a little bit of everything (2 pita pockets, a wrap, combo platter, drinks) including some extra pita bread to eat up all the baba ghanouj and hummus. Everything is delicious, everything is very well seasoned, comes out, hot and fresh. After we have lunch, we ordered some halva and Turkish delight. Elias cut everything up for us and put it in a takeout box. Highly recommend! I would definitely come back !
Visually, it's not much so don't be judging a book by it's cover. The food and service is on point. They have many gluten-free friendly Turkish desserts which I thoroughly enjoyed. Just wow, treat your taste buds. My daughter and I enjoyed the combination plates and everything tasted really fresh and light, which I appreciate. I personally think this type of food is best fresh versus to-go, but do you boo. I'd like to go back and try some other options.
The place is at the merge intersection on Soquel so it kind of a strange spot. It's counter service, service was super nice, where they were more than happy to explain the menu if you were unfamiliar either the cuisine. The food is plentiful and delicious.
Delicious shawarma, and I love the Israeli pita recipe used!! The only place you can get fluffy pita in Santa Cruz :) Happy to have found this place!
Amazing food. Falafel is The BEST EVER. Awesome service. I recommend my friends to try this place. 10/10.
Deliciousness for hungry tourists..... Beef and chicken combo plate and falafel plate
