This place is an amazing hole in the wall and I don't understand how this is not a franchise by now. I love trying new food places and not my first time having Vietnamese but I will say that this IS my first time having it. This was by far one of the best experiences I've had! Jimmy served us and was amazing! My best friend and I had a great time and we will definitely be coming back out! Thank you so much! 5 Stars Hue, located in South El Monte's Thuan Phat Supermarket, offers a taste of central Vietnamese cuisine, particularly the city of Hue. Their specialty, Bun Bo Hue, features a savory and slightly spicy broth made from pork bones, fermented shrimp paste, and lemongrass, served with tender beef brisket, pork knuckle, meatballs, and soft blood cubes. The rice noodles are thick and cylindrical, complemented by fresh herbs like mint, rau ram, banana blossoms, and sprouts.
Another must-try is their Banh Ram It, a golfball-sized, crispy and chewy steamed rice dumpling filled with shrimp, topped with more sticky rice, shrimp, scallions, and fried shallots. A small green chili pepper adds extreme heat.
The dining area has a dozen tables, and parking is convenient in the supermarket's lot. However, the Bun Bo Hue broth lacks the traditional aroma, and the presentation, while appealing, is not accompanied by robust flavors. Beverages, including water, are priced at $1.50 per cup.
