Their Thaali is like home cooked food. Very simple, not too spicy good quality veggies. Portions are very reasonable for the price
Consistency on the food quality 😀

The service is not good. I visited this place last week as well and ordered veg biryani and uttapam. the biryani was not like biryani looking like 2-3 days old rice with just a little quantity of beans. Then I did the uttapam for to go and it was too much oily. Too disappointing but still I visited this today as well and I complained about it to the cashier but she just casually said that we don’t use this much oil in our food. She was so rude and it was really insulting because she simply ignored what I said. Never going to visit this place again

Fan of their daily thalis, no guilt, sattvik, filling and no after effects like other buffets. Love that it is homely food!

Best Indian breakfast in the Bay Area. Everything was fresh and hot. Service was quick and easy. We tried a bunch of items. Definitely recommend the mysore masala dosa and the poori masala. The vada’s were also phenomenal. Also heard that the hotel provides a part of their profits to charity.

Once upon a time KV was a lovely family restaurant with great food and friendly service. Those were the days...
Now, the restaurant has grown. BUT the food quality is very iffy (we had set dosa and upma (both the pits, esp the set dosa), masala dosa (fair), sambar and chutney (worse than fair) idly (fair), vada (very good), coffee (OMG there must be a competition going on for the bottom).
Even so, a good service might have made up for some of the shortcomings. Unfortunately, although they got the customers, they don't appear interested in hiring help for it. They it would seem to want all the golden eggs in one go.
Plus they failed to provide receipt. No one cared.

My family and I have been patronizing this restaurant for 15+ years. Their Sunday lunch with the potato fry is the highlight of their menu.
Kudos to the management and the kitchen staff for sustaining their standards and taste all these years.
When they are really busy, it seems a little hard to flag down the wait staff to request more food. They need to consider expanding the number of wait staff during their really busy times.
They also sell some snacks and sweets etc., which are always a hit with our family. Their dinner a la carte menu is also something that our family looks forward to eating from.
Overall, one of the local gems. Improving wait staff service and overall ambience would take them to the next level.

Restaurantji Recommends
This is a family restaurant so order taking may not be perfect but it is fine. Restaurant is more human. You could go somewhere else down the street, get a perfect ordering system but also get a free hair cut with the prices they fleece you with mediocre, unhealthy & greasy food.
So what do you like - perfect ordering, greasy stale food with an expensive hair cut or a down to earth restaurant , imperfect ordering with fresh healthy food that does not break your wallet ?. Choice is clear… otherwise you need to get a life .
Do visit this place. I have for past 25 years
Disclosure: I have no ownership in any of the restaurants and just a customer

Their order taking process is confusion at best. By the time you narrate your order there will be multiple interruptions to the point where in you will forget even what you want to order. There is a sort of a manager guy who is clueless about how to handle customers. I have lost the desire to go back there again. Go down El Camino to their competitor who have one of the perfect order taking process.
See thali menu photo attached to this review.
Great place, clean-low oil food.
Best lowkey South Indian restaurant in the Bay Area. Don’t miss their happy hour. It’s a steal.
Any day go to place; food will lift your spirits.
