I'm familiar with Callaway golf clubs but never visited the winery. During a wine tour today, we discovered that Ely Calloway established the winery in 1969 but later sold it to the British wine and spirit company, Allied Domecq Wines, in 1981. Following the dissolution of Allied Domecq Wines in late 2005, the winery was acquired by the Lin family of San Diego. Delicious wines, relaxed ambience, super-friendly wine hosts. Callaway is one of Temecula's older wineries, and they certainly know what they're doing. It's a beautiful, spacious property with excellent views, and a good place to visit if you find Temecula's tasting rooms crowded when you visit. We visited Callaway for Thursday night Boots after Dark. They had a couple of wines and other drinks to choose from, which was fine. The live music was very good, and the line dance lessons were fun. Deducting one star because the company doing the BBQ was terrible. Only food choices were fries, chicken on a stick. I threw my chicken away because much of it was undercooked. So I recommend the event, just eat before you go.
