New Mandarin Noodle Deli is a small, consistently busy restaurant popular with locals, especially around lunch and dinner. The service is fast, good, and accommodating, with workers happy to help first-time visitors. The dining area is spacious but can get quite packed.
The food is delicious and wonderful, with flavors that taste just like in Taiwan. Portions are quite big and prices are very reasonable. A local go-to spot, it is not the cream of the crop but is considered a top five choice, especially without long waits.
Highly recommended dishes include the mouth-watering saliva chicken, the beef noodle soup with hand-cut noodles, and the beef roll—a crispy scallion pancake wrapped around lots of beef slices, considered one of the best in the San Gabriel Valley. The House Pan Fried Dumpling is a favorite for its thin skin and juicy, flavorful pork. The pan fried buns with pork and leeks have nice flavor, though the skin can be too thick. Other noted items are the beef wrapped tacos, shanxi knife cut fried noodles, seafood noodles, hot and sour soup, and meat pie. The sautéed green beans, however, can be inconsistent, sometimes looking sad with uneven saltiness.
The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. Customers consistently say they will definitely go back to try more dishes.
