About AJ’s Tex-Mex Barbecue

AJ's Tex-Mex Barbecue is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant with a cozy ambiance and plentiful parking, including parking in back. The establishment offers surprising flavors in their ribs, briskets, and pulled pork, with a less sweet and slightly acidic barbecue sauce. Their Brisket Sando is a must-try, with juicy and flavorful brisket, and the tri tip is outstanding too. Sides such as Mac n Cheese, street corn, and collard greens are tasty and gooooood. The one meat and three side combo is a great value for fresh and flavorful food, and the 3 meat 3 side combo can easily feed a family. Don’t skip on the Thick Fries, perfectly seasoned with a pillowy interior and crisp exterior. Unfortunately, indoor seating is not available, but outdoor sidewalk seating is provided, and the vibe in Pat’s on laurel next door is the perfect spot to eat and have a beer. Staff are friendly and the quality of the food is excellent, though sometimes the meat can be dry. You got to try them out. You will not be disappointed.

Just had a great take out lunch! Lalo was super friendly, and Ladu explained the science and the intensive process behind their smoking method using white oak logs. So interesting!

The elote was AMAZING—I honestly wish I had gotten more lol. I’ll definitely have to come back for it!

This is their medium serving with a side of fried chicken. The chicken was dry-fried, super crispy, and really tasty.

Such a cute little spot with outdoor seating only....read full review
Definitely my favorite bbq in LA. We ordered the medium combo and it was plenty for 2 people.

I had a feeling this place was gonna be good when the very nice dude pulled a pro move and asked if we wanted fatty or lean brisket. First time that’s ever happened and really hope other bbq places start doing this because I only really like the fatty stuff. And yes it was incredibly moist and falling apart. Ribs were even better- very well seasoned and tender. One of them...read full review
