First time visiting Café Bernard and I was fascinated. I ordered a tuna sandwich which was delicious. All the flavors feel like home, it’s a place I would definitely visit again. The place and the atmosphere are very warm.If you want a good breakfast don't hesitate to visit it will be worth it.

At first the dining experience was great. Started with some nice wine and a ratatouille appetizer. Then, we waited an hour for our food, which is fine. Most places are understaffed, and we understand. However, when the food arrived, the cacio e Pepe was bland and the scallop curry was extremely salty. The seafood linguine was delicious and we had no issues with that dish. When we tried to send the cacio e Pepe back, the waitress told us that we didn’t send it back early enough, even though she only checked on us in quick passing, once, to ask us if we needed anything else (not asking us about our dishes). We had a good amount of the scallop curry and didn’t sent it back because we knew we already had a large portion of the dish. However, with the cacio e Pepe, we only had a few bites. When we tried to give the restaurant feedback about the dishes, the waitress was extremely defensive and told us that she had already checked in on us.Wish I could say I recommend this place, but with the service and the inconsistency in dishes, I wouldn’t come back

Unfortunately, this restaurant was pretty hit or miss. We had some dishes that were very good, but some that really were not…we had the curry scallop and some bites were extremely salty- they clearly didn’t take the time to mix the food well. We also had the cacio e Pepe and it was just buttered noodles with Parmesan on top- no flavor, extremely underwhelming. We had just a couple bites of it and sent it back, but they would only give us 50% off, saying we didn’t send it back immediately. We didn’t even ask to return the curry scallop since we at a good amount of it, but the waitress was very unhelpful and the management just didn’t care that we had a bad experience.Honestly, wouldn’t even be writing this review if I had felt like they cared about their customer experience, but it was made clear to us that they don’t. If you are coming here, the ratatouille was very good and the seafood linguine was fine.

The food here was very hit and miss. The ratatouille and the seafood linguine dish were great. However, the curry with scallop was disgustingly salty. Like every bite you would take you don't know if you're going to get a bite of seawater or not. Similarly, the cacio e pepe was literally butter noodles. There was no flavor and it was like unsalted butter and a bit of pepper. We tried to send the butter noodles back but the server said the best they could do was do 50% off on the noodles even though we had a few fork fulls of it. We decided to not make a scene and accepted it. Not only that but we actually waited over an hour to get our entrees. We were here from 6:30 and didn't get the food until close to 8 despite only 2 tables being here in front of us. Extremely disappointed by this experience. Not sure how this place has a high review but it definitely shouldn't be 4 -- in my opinion this place should be at most 2 stars. Beware all future customers - this place is has really inconsistent food. EDIT - Some random white guy in his 50s came up to us as we were leaving and got up in our face and said "so you're going to leave a 1 star review because the food was bad?". We actually were outside and this random guy confronted us. He was very angry and said a few things and told us to stay at Carbondale next time (???) Not sure who this person was but that was very awkward and uncomfortable for a middle aged man to start a confrontation with us AFTER WE LEFT THE RESTAURANT WHILE WE WERE ON THE SIDEWALK. Not sure if this was the owner or someone associated with the restaurant but that was definitely a massive WTF

The food is just fantastic and beautifully presented. The pork chop with mole sauce was outstanding. Portions are generous, wine list is nice. Hidden gem!

Special restaurant in downtown Basalt. Old style local atmosphere. I have enjoyed several excellent breakfasts as well an occasional dinner.

The food is outstanding. We have eaten here often and tried many different menu items, all have excellent to outstanding Service is slow, but it's worth the wait There is no ambiance. It's very small and intimate. If full or close to that it gets noisy.

This has been my go to for breakfast in basalt for over 20 years…. Something has changed, and it’s not good. I came specifically for Illy coffee only to find a latte that tasted like it was made in a gas station…. No more Illy and no more pretty colored sugar crystals. Some cost savings are penny-wise but pound foolish. I’ll go to Craft or Cece’s for my coffees now. Having said that, he omelette was great and the server was nice. Locals don’t like change and I’m sad to say that Bernard’s has gone dramatically downhill!

While the food was solid. And, while they do warn you with a sign on the door that says "this is not fast food", there was a huge gap between the appetizers and the entrees. We had a family dinner there for our 50th anniversary and had young kids. Would not have chosen the place, if we had known that. Also, our kids cleared, in advance, that we they would be bringing a cake for dessert, but were not told that there would be an up-charge, until after the dinner. Finally, no one seemed particularly happy to have is there.

I absolutely loved Café Bernard growing up when it was still owned by Bernard and I still love it now. I was a little worried at first the new management would make changes, and they have, but I think it has all been for the better. The spirit and character of the restaurant have remained (even their no cell phone use policy). I would particularly recommend any of the baked goods and pastries. They are all spectacular. I also really enjoy the smoke trout hash and the steak and eggs. For those complaining about the speed of the service, I would like to remind them that this is a tiny family owned restaurant and often only has one waitress and one chef on staff. All food is made to order, so if a bunch of people walk in at once, it’s gonna take a minute. This is a small town Café not McDonald’s be patient and respectful. Part of the reason this place is good is because of the ambience, sit back and enjoy it.

Grew up in Basalt. This was my favorite breakfast spot. I would take everyone here while visiting.Unfortunately, the place has gone significantly down hill - possibly under new management. It took 30 minutes after being seated to just get water and coffee. Took another 45 minutes for food to arrive. Of our party’s order, the steak was over cooked and served in a pool of blood and some sort of gelatinous steak sauce, the crepes were still batter, the trout hash was in fact salmon and there was about two bites, the burrito was okay but lacked seasoning.I’ve never left a review in my life but Cafe Bernard has to turn it around. It was such an awesome part of downtown.

What a disappointment! We came upon this place walking in Basalt. I wish I checked the reviews before going in. It took 10 minutes to get the menu and almost an hour to get our food. I had to send back my food because the salmon was still pretty raw, so more waiting. Don’t waste your time here.
