The Boiler Room Tavern is a gem in Cripple Creek, located inside the historic St Nicholas Hotel, which used to be the hospital ran by the Sisters of Mercy. The tavern is small but has a cozy, charming atmosphere where strangers become friends. The service is great, and the bartenders make excellent custom cocktails. Recommended drinks include the Surgeon's Old Fashioned with homemade cherries and citrus infused sugar, the Lemon Spritz, and their well known Old Fashioned. The food is good, with the clam chowder outstanding. The old boiler is a centerpiece of the bar. The vibe is immaculate with green glass lamp shades, various chotchkees, eclectic decorations, steam pipes, a boiler facade, the obligatory painting of a reclining nude above the bar, and perfect lighting. They have 40 whiskeys to choose from. A fun and quirky place, more personable than a casino.
