Hunter Thomson's old hangout, lots of history on the walls. Food is fine, always a bit of a wait. Nice wait though.

Too mad to live too mad to die

The place to be. And so close to Owl Farm. What a place... C us soon!!

Unfortunately, the Woody Creek Tavern is relying more on history than quality. Part of a cluster of Aspen owned and operated restaurants, it's by the worst of the bunch. Same menu since it reopened 2 years ago, and the quality has only gone down. Meanwhile prices have only gone up

I ordered the fried Chicken and had to send it back because It was as tougher than shoe leather, not to mention the drumstick was the size of my thumb. Not kidding.

Other members of my party ordered nachos that were saggy and inedible, not to mention it a presentation that looked like dog food. My friend who ordered the Buffalo burger got food poisoning and was throwing up all night.

Do yourself a favor, go only for the margaritas, but don't order food until they clean up their act.

Arrived about 7:45 and just waited a few minutes for a table. Had the bison burger and a side salad. Both were excellent. The side salad was unique with beets, citrus and a fresh sesame dressing.

Staff was friendly and prompt. The only negative was that it was very loud.

What’s not to love about the Tavern?! Food is waaay better than it used to be. Service is fast and friendly and the atmosphere festive and familiar. Been stopping in when in the Valley for 40years, I won’t get 40 more but hope the Tavern does!

Trash service. Stopped in for a beer. After being seated; took the waiter 15minutes to come take our order. Then we were asked to give up our table when there was 3 open tables available. Super rude.

Came up to Aspen with friends. Stayed with a friend from Aspen. He brought the group here for some local color and flare. What a great piece of history. The staff was awesome. The food was good. What a great place to stop in and enjoy the local flare. You must stop in.

This used to be the spot to slink back and escape the jackals of Aspen. But, friends, the fox is in the henhouse. The Woody Creek Tavern—once a sanctuary for locals and weirdos—has been gutted. The soul of the place sold to the highest bidder (an Aspen-based restaurant group) a few years ago and replaced with overpriced, watered down margaritas. Now, it’s a sterile theme park—a Fisher Price version of its former self.

But wait, it gets worse. They’ve armed a woman with a phone, desperate to assert her small slice of power. She calls less than 24 hours before your reservation (within the penalty window) like some feudal debt collector. God forbid life throws you a curveball—half your party gets the stomach bug, another’s flight gets delayed—and you have to cancel. They’ll hit you with a $50-per-person fee.

Avoid it if you have any self-respect—or if you remember what it used to be. They’re nickel-and-diming the people who used to make this place what it was. Woody Creek deserves better.
