I miss the old Chips...

$18 for a taco salad in a to go container tonight. No sour, no salsa, no guacamole, no jalapenos... lettuce, chicken, cheese, two tablespoons of tomatoes.

Chips was my favorite restaurant on the shoreline. Not anymore. So disappointing. I've been going for years...

We came here for an early dinner in a group of nine people. We ordered drinks immediately once seated (2 were beers, the rest was soda and water) and it took about 20 mins to get them. We were told she would come back to take our order. After another 20 mins of waiting for our order to be taken we flagged down our waitress and she came a few minutes later to take our order. Our entrees came after we had been there almost two hours. It wasn’t super busy, and we had kids that were getting very very impatient. Upon getting our food it was pretty underseasoned. My son got the lobster grilled cheese for $27.50. There were minuscule crumbs of overcooked lobster on it and the Gruyère was like rubber. My side of mashed potatoes had hard spots and was gummy like it was sitting under the heat lamp for half an hour. The only redeeming factor were my braised short ribs, they were delicious. I finished my water and never got offered a refill. Almost $300 later… I would not come back. The whole experience was underwhelming which is unfortunate because the space and atmosphere are pretty cool.

The service was a little slow, my wife and I noticed some employees on their phones.
The food was very good and worth the wait.

Fortunately this service was four stars. Unfortunately the meal was adequate at best. The clam chowder was highly recommended and I think my wife and I had only a couple of clams and maybe a piece of celery and a potato square in each cup. A French dip sandwich was very good.

We loved going to Chips but after new management took over things changed. A hamburger was burned on the outside and medium rare on the inside (not what I ordered.) A steak was the same way. I didn't go for a while but we gave them another chance. Their fries were good but the chicken fingers were dry and chewy. That's three strikes.

Service was absolutely awful. Came for a birthday dinner and waited 20 minutes just to order appetizers. Waitress clearly did not care, did not check back and after waiting 30 minutes for boxes and bill finally asked for a manager who had a bad attitude and clearly did not care which might explain why his staff has a bad attitude. He suggested don't tip the waitress but offered no apology or compensation. Used to be a great place but will never come back.

Easily some of the WORST service I've ever received. Manager had the nerve to not take the raw hamburger and do the ticket bc my starving husband ate some of it after we waited for over an hour.
Unbelievably bad & manager is obviously a huge part of the problem.
Not sure what happened there, bc they used to be great. Will never go again,
Save your money & go somewhere w a semblance of customer service.

Been coming here for over 30 years. I like that the new owner created an outdoor bar. The caveat to that area is the acoustics with the live music...Absolutely awful!! It's extremely loud to the point that it is difficult to hold a conversation. Will not go back to that area unless there's no live music...such a shame!!

I just left Chips Pub III in Clinton Ct. I have been there many times. I live directly across the street. I have Celiac Disease which is an allergy to the gluten protein. They used to carry Redbridge, a gluten-free beer. That was nice, I could literally walk across the street, have a salad, wings, or nacho's, with a beer. They stopped carrying the beer. That was disappointing but the food was still good, and they had GF offerings, so I continued to go every once in a while. Their buffalo wings were always great! Today, 08/16/2025 I decided to walk over and have some. The bartender assured me that they were in fact GF. When I received my order, I immediately noticed that they tasted sweet. I questioned the bartender, and she said that they were buffalo and must be my tastebuds. After a few more bites I explained to her that I was concerned due to my allergy that the kitchen may have mistakenly given be the wrong sauce. She agreed to double check. When she returned, she explained that it was the house buffalo sauce made from butter, ketchup, and buffalo sauce. So mystery solved, what I was tasting was ketchup. I looked at my plate and sure enough it looked just like someone tossed my wings in ketchup! I asked for the check, paid my bill and didn't eat another bite. Now I ask all of you wing lovers out there, have you ever heard of buffalo wings made with Ketchup? To The owners: The wings you used to serve were great. I would always recommend them to friends and family alike. Not anymore, unless this was a simple case of someone in the kitchen that had no idea what they were doing. In which case you need to get a handle on it, and you owe me a refund. Really sadly disappointed, John Vassallo
