The Portuguese Sweet Buns from Abrantes Bakery & Pastry Shop (purchased at Cherry Valley Supermarket in Waterbury) are excellent: a lightly sweetened authentic flavor, moist, and the right amount of raisins. I am penalizing them 1 star because they use bromated flour (potassium bromate), although as an occasional treat, I think it's probably fine.
The fresh Portuguese rolls are a must-have in the morning; if you come early enough they are still warm from the oven! Very affordable too, $0.50 per roll (plain) and $1.00 per roll (with butter)
Tony rocks! Old school Portuguese bakery. Tony bakes like he did decades ago. Nothing has changed and you can taste that history. There are very few bakeries still doing it the way they should and Abrantes is one of the best in the state.
