The atmosphere was super cool! Drinks were great. Bartender was really nice.
If you remember the bar called Old Heidelberg that was in this location 40 years ago, this is not the same bar. That Old Heidelberg closed, and the space was a Thai restaurant for a number of years. More recently, it reopened as a bar under the old name. The new version is a traditional American bar with good drinks. Nothing fancy, but a good place to hang out. I didn't rate the food only because I haven't tried it.
We were recommended this bar by a bartender at Rudy’s and are so grateful we gave it a shot! Thank you Emily for the best espresso martini I have had in recent memory and we hope to meet your famous popcorn machine next time!

During Monday night trivia, the bar can get crowded with a mix of different people, including students from Yale. The atmosphere is inviting and historic, with old wooden tables and funky candles, resembling a scene out of Hogwarts. Guests enjoy highlights such as an extremely well-made old fashioned and a delicious gin cocktail recommended by Mike. Prices are reasonable, with a pitcher of light beer costing $15. Old Heidelberg is a rare downtown gem with tasty drinks, a great atmosphere, and a fantastic bartender, making it a spot worth returning to.
