“Phenomenal food on its way to a Michelin star. Very expensive, but worth every penny if you're looking for quality Japanese food. All the staff are Japanese themselves or have lived in Japan at one point, making all the food truly Japanese inspired.Shout out to Charles! Super cool guy and added a lot to the experience.“
“The food was plentiful. Even the appetizers were big enough for the four of us. We started with the edamame and Brussel sprouts appetizers. I don't eat edamame, but the Brussel Sprouts were delicious. I had the hibachi chicken, which was a large portion, plated nicely that was also flavorful. Others at the table had the sushi rolls. They were very large portions. We asked for them to be done with brown rice, which they were. We we will definitely be eating there again.Dietary restrictions: They gad brown ricexas a substitute for white.“
“I’ve been eating here periodically for months, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite lunch spots. The service is always fast and friendly. The food is always fresh, consistent, and delicious. It’s also more affordable and better quality than many of the chain poké restaurants (i.e. pokémoto)“
“My family and I were really impressed with our sushi today. We ordered a variety of rolls to take home and eat. While they were all delicious we had nonidea what was what but like I said it was delicious. We will be back for more but maybe we will eat in next time.“
“I had my first experience with my friend and her brother today and it was fantastic. The fish was fresh, the cuts were amazing and the service was impeccable. Would highly recommend as an omakase spot in CT and order the kama toro, it was perfect.“
“Food: Honestly, we had a really great Omakase experience here - props to New Haven and props to Otaru for bringing great variety and fresh sushi to New Haven, CT!Service: our Sushi chef and wait staff were also great.Ambiance: The restaurant itself is very small and has limited seating at the sushi bar so make sure to reserve in advance for a nice and intimate experience.“
“SO GOOD! THIS PLACE NEEDS MORE HYPE!! I don't usually leave reviews, but I knew i had to after I came here. Service was amazing, food came very quickly, and it was all delicious!! Was not expensive either. Green tea ice cream, pork gyoza, and pad thai are a MUST TRY!! For those who have allergies, the waitress made sure to inform me that my pad thai had peanuts before I ordered it. Super considerate- definitely recommend.“
“Live in Northford and this is our go to sushi place. We always order online and pick up. They are always busy on the weekends and the wait can be an hour sometimes, but it's fresh and worth the wait! Staff is friendly and always hustling trying to get the to go orders out.“
“Everyone kept telling me to visit this restaurant, and now I can see why! From the moment you walk in, you can tell that there are a lot of regulars, and everyone loves coming back repeatedly. it also feels like a very cozy family restaurant. We ordered so many dishes for our table to try and were not disappointed by any of them. We tried everything from the sake cocktails to the spicy mussels and of course a few different sushi rolls. All I can say is that the hype is absolutely warranted and I will be back for more!“
“I am a regular here. Their sushi is fantastic! I also love their chicken skewers- they’re juicy and fresh. The atmosphere here is very chill and relaxing. The family that owns this are very hard working and polite. Great food and great people. 100% “
“We had a great time at Fin and Scales, cute place with nice service. We started with the Striped Bass Carpaccio and the Salmon Spring Rolls which both tasted so fresh and were delicious. For our mains the speciality rolls were devine we enjoyed the Mt Fuji and Abundance. Can’t wait to come back and see what else the new management has in store.Dietary restrictions: KohserParking: Paid lot across the street.“
“One of the Best Japanese Restaurants in Connecticut if you love Sushi and Sashimi. The Spider roll made with fried soft shell crab is to die for!! My wife had the Dinner Bento Box with the Bento Chicken and loved everything. The service was outstanding. The prices are very reasonable and the portions generous. The soup or salad that comes with the meal is very good. We go to the best rated restaurants in Connecticut and NY. and if they were to improve their ambiance/atmosphere which is a little plain and make the restaurant more romantic it would be a destination restaurant and one of the best anywhere.“
“A beautiful restaurant with nice interior. Delicious food with various Japanese food selections. I love their special roll selections and how they serve it with beautiful presentatio. Ramen was great too. Octopus ball is good, but little bit creamy for me.“
“Great lunch special! Got two of the 3 roll lunch combos and the 5 pc sushi appetizer. Sushi was fresh and delicious. Ordered salmon rolls(2) Boston shrimp roll, veg combo roll(2), sweet potato roll. Highly recommend. Want to note, practicing social distancing (Feb 2023), they have tables but appears as only take out only for right now.“
“I’m not typically one to leave reviews but I feel like Lumi deserves one. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant! The sushi and food is always delicious and the service is great. I have ordered delivery from Uber eats several times and for many people while at work and they always get the order right. They even pack the sushi according to each persons order and label everything. Definitely give this place a try!!“
“This is an excellent new place in New Haven and one I highly recommend. I’m not kidding, it might be some of the best, most authentic Chinese food in the city. Do the build your own bowl, try the pork broth, throw in a meat and some veggies and you’ve got an awesome meal for a reasonable price. If you’re craving good, authentic, real Chinese food give this place a try - you will not be disappointed!“
“When you walk in its soft peaceful atmosphere. The ladie in the front was very cheerful ? she was also helpful on what I should order vegetable fried rice with beef wrap scalps in a house sauce very tasty. Now I do know this place is handicap accessible no public bathrooms and parking is alittle tight .would I eat here again absolutely ? ?Parking: It's tightKid-friendliness: Yes for sureWheelchair accessibility: Absolutely“
“Went with another couple and sat at table in front window, where it was quiet and provided a view of the entire restaurant. Appetizers and sushi were outstanding. The lava cake was amazing. Service was superb. We used to regulars but hadn't been since the pandemic. One of the finest dining experiences in New Haven!“
“Sushi was excellent, but pass on the crab wontons (crab rangoon) as they tasted off. The shrimp tempura was delicious, light and flaky. A little more expensive than other places so I'll probably stick with my usual place that is closer to home. But if you're in the area it's a good option!“
