We wanted to experience authentic Ethiopian cuisine. This restaurant did not disappoint! We were welcomed with open arms and the gentleman was very nice and helpful in helping us decide what to order. We tried the axum special which was steak (well done) and the fish dish. They served both our meals on the same plate which was a nice experience to share and eat together. Of course this was full experience, eating with our hands. Nice!!We will definitely visit again!

Obviously people outside the habesha culture don't know what good habesha food taste like smh. I once fell victim to it assuming it was (food) all the same. Thanks to Helen, my co worker a native from Ethiopia educated me on habesha culture/Food .That's like saying Olive Garden is the best Italian restaurant. Axum is equivalent to a Chinese carryout opposed to fine dining ethiopian restaurant. Here's a great suggestion to try. Cher Cher on 9th Street Northwest you will not be disappointed thank me later.....

I ordered the kitfo deluxe and it was disgusting. No flavor whatsoever. The cottage cheese tasted like it had sugar in it and the collard greens weren't collards at all. It was way overcooked flavorless spinach. Never again!

Excellent injera, we had meat cubes and vegetables on top of it and it was fantastic. Ethiopians were here which made us feel as if we found the right place. Michael's service was excellent and warm. Really tasty, highly recommend.
We cannot thank enough our Ethiopian Uber driver who suggested Axum! Axum offers generous portions in a very family friendly, unpretentious ambience. The wait staff are wonderful and helpful in suggesting plates to those excited to explore Ethiopian cuisine. A must when in DC!

Today I had the vegetarian combo and the fish goulash with 5 other friends. It was so delicious we had to add the Shiro. Axum Restaurant is now on my top list for Ethiopian food.
