Service was great. We sat outside and the evening was perfect. Ramen was spectacular and came out pretty fast!
Whenever we travel we like to find local small restaurants to try. We found Chaplin's and was pleasantly surprised with the food and service. The atmosphere is rustic and has a cool vibe. We ordered some assorted small plates for the two of us to share. The food portions were good and tasty. We would definitely go back to the restaurant should we find ourselves in DC again.
Excellent food and customer service, fun ambiance to boot.

Amazing scratch-made Japanese cuisine in a classic neighborhood pub setting. Staff’s knowledge & friendliness were both top notch. Every drink & bite were delicious & I can’t wait to return.

Good ramen & the Veuve was flowing. The music was very loud in the booth we sat at, but our server was kind enough to turn it down so we didn't have to yell at each other to talk.
Love Chaplin's! This was my first time visiting. I saw the brunch advertised on social media and wanted to try it. It was definitely worth it! I will definitely be back.
My boyfriend and I love coming to Chaplin’s. The staff is always so welcoming when you walk in and give you the best service. The food is spectacular and hard to choose just one dish. I love coming back and trying their new cocktails!
We celebrated our anniversary at Chaplin’s this past March and I got an artist to draw the restaurant to remember such a special memory. 10/10 recommend Chaplin’s!

This place is something of an institution and I was very much excited to go. And I think if I was still in my 20s it would've been awesome. But... it was just kinda weird.
The drunken master dumplings were just no good after the sake? I guess? goes in. I feel like there could be a better alcohol to put in there.
The warm tonkotsu ramen broth was not flavorful enough? And the cold ramen, which I was so excited about, came out overpoweringly sweet! I guess.. that's a choice, but.. no. It was like eating a pasta salad. The ramen ingredients themselves were quality and our ramen egg and kara age chunks were delicious.
My partner got the NA Sakura drink, and the initial flavor hit was good, but then the vanilla or cherry aftertaste is less good.
The music is extremely loud. Good, but loud. Our server was fine but to be honest he didn't show us our itemized bill before charging us and I guess I should've said something. I just wasn't into that. It was getting busy and I know he was attending lots of tables.
It was just fine.

Man. This sucks to leave such a poor review but I'm very disappointed in this place. You can take this review as a one off, as I doubt this would happen again (crossing fingers). We're from Utah and my wife and I were recommended by a local to try here. We came around 7:00 Pm. The waitress seemed off, she took our drinks and food orders but she seemed rushed. We get our drinks, and as we are waiting for our food. Two other tables fill up as we're waiting. 40 minutes go by and these two tables get their food and we don't. So I tell the bus boy that we haven't got our food yet although we ordered a good 15 minutes before them. He tells the manager and the manager tells us what's going on. The waitress had a personal issue and had to leave. He apologizes that we'll get our food soon. 10 more minutes pass and finally we get our ramen. I'm not sure if they had to make a new batch or if they had to rush it out, but holy cow. I took my first sip and the temperature of the ramen was near boiling point. It immediately burned my mouth. Every bite after was painful. I tried telling the waiter who was covering what had happened and he laughed it off like it was a joke. I've been to several ramen restaurants in the US and Japan and this has never happened. The front part of the roof of my mouth is blistered. Same with my wife's. This sucks because I know they were in a tough spot with one of their only waitress leaving. I get it. The part that really sucked is the manager gave us the bill and charged us full price plus added a 20% tip. I just stared astounded. I wish I would had said something but I was shocked don't like to cause a scene. In Utah a discount or a free meal is offered without asking. The Chaplin a.s.s was at least a highlight, It has great flavor, that's if your tastebuds are melted to oblivion. Their cocktails are very good as well. Again I hope this wouldn't happen to anyone else, but requiring the 20% tip is wrong in this case.

I want to start by stating that a mandatory 20% tip is ridiculous. They do a good job of communicating this, so you're not caught off guard. However, it should be up to the customer, as the servers don't seem to care as much about doing a good job. This was evident during our stay. It was a hot night, and we sat outside. Our waters were left empty for a long period, with no ice. We drank lukewarm water and then waited for refills. Our waitress also gave us attitude whenever we asked questions.
The atmosphere was very nice and clean, though. The man who greeted us, sat us, and then took over for our waitress did a great job. He was polite, kind, and attentive.
My biggest problem was the $10 drink, the Raspberry Paradiso. It came with seven gigantic ice cubes in a tiny cup and a ridiculously small amount of liquid. I wouldn't have bought it if I had known it would be that small. The menu doesn't list the amount of liquid. For a non-alcoholic beverage, it was disappointing.
I would probably come back if they added eggs to their Chaplin's A.S.S.

Good ramen. The bar upstairs is always a vibe. They have good cocktails and great deals that’ll get you. Well decorated and conveniently located.

The waiter's recommendation was spot on! Get the Chaplin A.S.S. and add an egg and shrimp gyoza, you won't be disappointed!
10/10 food, great service too!
YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR JANE! Stellar service with expert knowledge of beverage and pairings. She was even kind enough to take her time with others that were not very familiar with this cuisine and explain things in great detail. Throughly enjoyed the hiyashi chuka! Great on a hot summer night.
