Every time I come to DC I head to China Chilcano and bring those with me. Food reminds me of my time in Lima.
This was a wonderful experience. The food was amazing and flavorful, the fusion aspect was interesting and creative, and the staff were very helpful and informative. Would definitely recommend.
I invited a few friends to have lunch and this was their first time. They enjoyed the ambiance and the food but were unsure of what to order. If the waitress had offered recommendations to them then that would have been helpful.
The food presentation was gorgeous, service great. Food flavor wise I and family enjoyed 40 percent of the dishes and I love Peruvian food.
This is my "go-to" restaurant whenever I have guests in town. It always satisfies in every way!
I absolutely loved China Chilcano! We happened to find it on a Tuesday and needed an early dinner prior to an evening tour. Lucky for us Tuesdays are Dim Sum all day and the selection was excellent. We had a plate of traditional Siu Mai and one of Kam Lu Wantán, crispy shrimp-pork dumplings, as appetizers. I had the Concolón with perfectly cooked (in a black skillet) crispy fried rice, pork belly, egg, lap chong sausage, shiitake mushroom, bok choy, rocoto. Mixed up tableside. My 15 year old grandson had the Lomo Saltado beef filet, tomato, soy sauce, aji amarillo peppers, potato, onions. Delicious. Fantastic drink menu - I had a Pisco Sour and a 5-Spice Old Fashioned - the selection of liquors is extraordinary. My grandson had Sprite (Mexican) with real cane sugar. We skipped desert in order to make it to our tour. I highly recommend China Chilcano!
We chose “Lunch in Lima”, the 28$ pre fix course. Dancing Yucca and Domburi Ji Song were very good. The photo is Suspiro Limeña, condensed milk based desert. It was delicious!
This was an interesting choice to make when we were deciding our dining options for our upcoming visit to Washington DC. The idea of a Peruvian, Asian and Spanish fusion was an interesting concept and we were eager to try this restaurant. Overall, we weren't particularly impressed We started with the chicken Dim Sum which we thought was "okay." This was our first time trying Dim Sum and perhaps the issue was that we were expecting more of a dough-like dumpling. This was a lot mushier and though it had an interesting taste, it didn't WOW us. Next up was the Tam Tam (noodles and spicy pork), which we thought was very good, but such a small portion for the price -- especially when sharing between two people. For our entree we picked the Peruvian Chicken, which at $44 promised to be a whole chicken that we thought would be plenty to share. When it came to the table, it turned out to be these tiny pieces of cut chicken. It was very surprising for us, at this price point, seeing that a whole roasted chicken could be bought for $5 and this was a quarter of the size with an inflated price. And while it came with a choice of three dipping sauces, none of them presented any flavor that was memorable. In fact, they were mostly bland. If I were to sum up the experience here I would say that it's very expensive for the small portions you get and none of what we ate, outside of perhaps the Tam Tam, had impressive flavor that you think would encompass the fusion this restaurant touts itself for. We would not return.
The fusion of Peruvian and Asian cuisine is very creative. Even things I would not have thought to put together in the same dish were excellent. Our waiter was solicitous and, when the wait time was a bit long, they gave us a free dessert. Not necessary at all but very nice. We will definitely be coming back!
the food is ok but not amazing. very small portions & the burger is $25 so it is very expensive. the chocolate cake was delicious. the place is tacky design lots of yellow & red & orange. when pay big bucks i prefer a really nice lighting & seats. hard uncomfortable seats. the menu is full of fancy food. could definitely use some better explanations so people know what is on it. I ordered a burger because I could understand what it was . I went for brunch with 3 friends and the bill without tip was $291. the service was good but could be better with filling the drinks. I probably won't go again because it is very expensive for what you get.

Wow!! what a wonderful spot with to-die-for dishes that are so yummy. We went for a pre-theater type quick meal and ended up ordering several small plates like wontons (simply the best I have ever eaten, and I'have been around for a long time), fried shrimp dumplings were delicious too. While quite crowded we were waited on promptly and the server was very attentive and helpful. The food came in plenty of time for us to get to our show. I will definitely come back when I can stay longer and sample more delicassies.
Noise plus music makes it difficult to converse. Aji de gallina seemed far distant from de real Aji de Gallina. Instead of yellow rice and chicken, it was chicken swimming in gravy as far from yellow as you could imagine.
It was a $50 lunch bill for 2 items and the food was mediocre at best. Quite salty - and I've never had to say that before. The waiter seemed disinterested. I was disappointed because I'd been looking forward to this for weeks. I wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend. There are too many stellar places.
I'm a regular at China Chilcano. It's usually a decent experience. Tonight was a bit different for me and my friends. Service was entirely and unnecessarily rude and disconnected from our table. Our waiter was so rude that we started asking others for help. The food was okay tonight. The menu has grown old and tired and extra salty. It's time for a revamp.
Had the pre-theater dinner menu. I did have to ask for it because I looked at the restaurant website the day prior. I was asked to show my ticket, so make sure you have yours if you want the menu. It's $35 and you may choose an appetizer, main entree, and dessert. It does not include drinks. This price was fair; a la carte prices were more expensive. Food was good, and I will be coming back with a friend or two to try other entrees from the main menu. Service was great - both the server and chef were very accommodating.
