Went to the Compass Rose during our visit to D.C. we did not have reservations so we were sat outside in the “train car” seating area, which was fine. We each ordered the “world tour” meals which was among the best meals I have had in a long time. The portion sizes were also very generous and we had food left over to take home. The service was fantastic as well.I do have an issue with the 20% “service charge” being added to the bill without it being clear at the beginning of the meal. Apparently this charge is added and then a tip is also expected on top of that 20%. That is insane to me and would make me not want to come back here. Just raise the prices of the food/drinks instead of charging a “junk fee.”

Compass rose is one of my favorite places in dc for date nights, visitors, any occasion or no occasion! The food and drinks are delicious and there are options for everyone. I love the spice bag and the khachapuri. On my latest visit, there were 8 of us for dinner, and our server, Nico, did an outstanding job taking care of us and accommodating for allergies and dietary restrictions.Vegetarian options: There is an entire vegetarian option for the “tour.” Vegans may have to substitute some more items

Three stars for atmosphere = I like it. We sat outside since we didn't have a reservation. It was dimly lit, nice warm evening, so it was pleasant. The seating was just strange since we were seated right next to a group of loud chatters when there were plenty of seats available. Overall, no big issues.Food was good. I liked the eclectic menu. Decent selection and you can get something from any region of the world. Had kachapuri, birria tacos, argentine asado, and spice bag fried chicken. The kachapuri was rich and beautifully presented. Our waiter stirred and mixed the egg and cheese tableside so it was a sensual viewing for our tastebuds. The asado came out first and alone. Chorizo was well cooked, not greasy at all. Was very tasty. The spice bag fried chicken was good. Lots of fried bits. Kind of cute presentation. I liked that!Birria tacos were not my choice, and not my favorite. Brisket was tender and juicy but lacking spice.

Such an amazing experience. Came here for an anniversary dinner and the staff made it feel so special. Was truly a memorable experience with great people, and amazing food. The vegetarian tour of the world and the trust us wine pairing was so good. Definitely a spot to savor, learn, and enjoy about global cuisines. Was also nice to have a vegetarian pre-fix menu so that the decision making wasn't on my partner or I. Best spot in town, and an amazing night to remember.Vegetarian options: Amazing vegetarian pre-fix menu. Half of menu is vegetarian and was so unique/flavorful. Also not a meat-substitute kind of menu which was refreshing. Nice, fresh, hearty, and light food all around.Dietary restrictions: Asked for my allergies and the waiter knew everything on the menu that included it. Also gluten-friendly with listed modifications to dishes.
