Food and service is 7. And I know it’ll be 22% tip added at the end, fine as long as it’s done right, but it turned out they calculate 22% tip based on (food + 10% tax), AND then calculate the 10% tax based on (food + 22% tip) - insane and marginally illegal! The final effective mandatory tip they added to my bill is $25.03 (final bill amount on top of $94 food + 10% tax), which ended up being a 26.63% tip! Either they are retarded at math or this is consumer fraud, For some mediocre Malaysian food…

Great svc since it was quiet. Nice staff. Good food a bit over seasoned.

Only deducting a star because the price to portion ratio could have been better, but also, its dc.This was our first time with Malaysian food, and Makan was a great introduction to the cuisine. After having spent the day in the chilly outdoors, this was the perfect, cozy, and warm end to the day. We ordered the Curry Mee | Noodle Soup, the Penang Street Noodles, the Mango Salad, and the Sago for dessert. Everything was a 10/10. The mango salad was a lovely level of spicy and refreshing. My partner especially enjoyed the Curry Mee for how hearty and flavourful it was; and I, the Penang Street Noodles for the flat rice noodles and all the textures in the dish. We loved loved loved the Sago dessert - not too sweet (the best compliment). In addition to the meal, I loved our waiter - he was attentive and helpful but not in a burdensome/ suck-up sort of way. There's also an automatic 22% gratuity included, so there's no need to tip - which was honestly really nice. Also, the restaurant sign font is a 10/10. Neeeeed that font at my disposal.

I REALLY liked the roti + beef at Makan (had to order the roti multiple times since it was so good!). Char Kway Teow also great. We tried the sago for dessert … that was weird since it’s salty, but hey glad I tried! Awesome service as well. I live in Brooklyn but wouldn’t mind coming back here.

I have a new favorite soup! This is the first time I try Malaysian food. The day I visited Makan, I was in the mood for a soup, preferably Pho, but being a Saturday around 6:30 PM, it was difficult to find a reservation. Then, while walking my way to the apartment I found Makan and they were taking walk ins.At first, I felt overwhelmed by the menu since it was pretty much new to me. But I found out Curry Mee and decided to try it. I am glad I did because the Curry Mee was amazing! It comes with 2 types of noodles, coconut broth, chicken sausage, tofu and spices. I like spicy, so I didn't remove any of the chili on top but my friends had to. Try it and then decide if you want to remove a little bit of it.As a side I ordered cocount rice and it was the perfect combination with the broth that has a creamy-buttery texture along with the other ingredients. I recommend adding a few drops of lemon juice to add a bit of sour. It is totally worth it.I am adding a picture of the menu so you can see the prices (as of March 17, 2024). In my opinion are affordable. They include a 22% service fee (which they tell you in advance).I definitely would like to come back and try a different dish.

Not sure how this place gets its BIB rating, it's not even close to mediocre. Before I make comments about the food, I want to say the service is excellent. Very attentive. We ordered the ayam masak merah, it's not even close to the real taste. It's definitely not Malaysian masak merah. Very disappointed. The char kueh teow...way too soggy, no wok flavor and we had 1 strand of bean sprout on our plate. Satay chicken...isn't it supposed to be grilled? If it wasn't for the peanut sauce, it was honestly just some pan chicken put on the skewer stick. A piece of roti for $8? May be I was expecting something more authentic since it has its BIB reputation. If you are looking for good Malaysian food, this is not the place.

We ordered 2 dishes, the Curry Mee and the Char Kway Teow. Both were presented that just resembled them being splat on the plate, no love or presentation. The flavor was ok, but not like real Malay food. We were thoroughly underwhelmed, as we had expected more. Maybe we just caught it on an off night, but I would not recommend it.

This was the best mee goreng I've ever had! The sauce had so much umami flavour. I ordered the sago dessert thinking it was a mango dessert. It wasn't what I expected, but quite good.

The food here is delicious! This menu encourages one to buy multiple plates of food to share with the table and that's really the best set up to get to try as many of the wonderful dishes as possible. The staff was great. Our server was kind, helpful, and generous with his time and suggestions to make sure we had a great meal. The price was also affordable. We ended up spending about $60 per person with tax and tip and we had way more food than we could comfortably eat. We will definitely be back!
