The owner is a horrible person. Putting down other Asians and making them feel lesser. Not ok. You should help others and raise them up not make it harder. Just bc you are in a place of authority doesn’t mean you can do whatever- have a conscience and God is

The restaurant is horrendous! Food is sub par and overpriced. Never pay this amount for Asian food. Way better places in

food was very inventive and good, but it was lacking on actual depth of any type of flavor. The service was quite good though we had to wait five minutes to actually be seated because the there was only one person seating people. The interior is very confusing and crowded and the restaurant decor doesn’t really make sense, the fried chicken was very good and unique so was the scallion pancake however, the pho really didn’t have any flavor and they were using chicken stock for some reason so it didn’t really have much flavor.

I’m so glad we came across the DC episode of Somebody Feed Phil just a couple of weeks before our trip. This is my husband’s first visit to the city. Although it’s my 3rd, my 1st visit was almost 30 years ago and my recent 2nd visit was for a short conference and everything was arranged so it did not count. We had no idea where we would eat until we watched the episode. Maketto was one of the places featured. It looked good and a reservation was made!It was very easy for us to reach the restaurant in the H Street NE neighbourhood via Metro Rail and the DC Streetcar from The Mall. After spending an entire day walking the length of The Mall and visiting the Capitol and the National Gallery of Art, we were eager for a nice and leisure dinner so we opted for a table in the courtyard near the back of the restaurant. We felt relaxed as soon as we sat down. Our server José was extremely helpful providing us recommendations. Someone who I think is the owner came by more than a few times, too.We ordered:1. Crispy Gruyère Dumplings,2. Cambodian Noodle Salad with Pork,3. Cambodian Style Pho with Chicken, and4. Drunken Shrimp Fried RiceDid we order too much? YES! But did I regret it? NO because they were soooo good.First came the gooey cheesy dumpings. They were perfectly paired with a spicy chunky beef sauce. José told us it’s the same sauce they use for the Spicy Beef and Rice Bowl (topped with a fired egg). I could eat that every day. Then it was a fried rice. When we saw the portion, we knew we would be in trouble. The aroma and flavour were so addictive that we stopped ourselves from consuming the whole dish to make room for the rest of our order and I’m glad we did.The noodle salad was refreshing. The soup base of the pho was light with a slight tang but also rich in flavour. Both had very generous portions of their respective protein. I’m glad there was a good balance of dark and white meats in the pho and the white meats were very tender. We packed the rest of the noodle salad and fried rice to go. I tried to finish the pho but my gut was already sticking out an inch further than half an hour before so I stopped.I’m looking at the leftover fried rice in the hotel room now and I think I’m hungry again!

Food was all delicious and inventive! Crispy chicken wings and spicy cauliflower were my favourite. I’m not quite sure the small/medium/big plates translate all that accurately though, so do be wary of overordering. The service also could have been a bit faster at times but for a relaxed Friday night dinner it’s not a huge problem. Friendly service and fun atmosphere makes up for it.

Everything was welcoming and warm, from the greeting of the host which was genuine and inviting to the friendly service that seemed timed so perfectly. The food was melt in your mouth delicious. It delighted my senses. I wouldn't change a thing!

we had an absolute blast last night at Maketto, the food was delicious--- standouts gruyere dumplings, the bison short rib, all cocktials. Our friend, David, who's birthday it was and is from Taiwan, had a great time and the staff were so kind and damn good at their jobs! I am so impressed and recommend Maketto! Thank you guys for a great time!

Right when you walk in, you are warmly greeted by a host. The food and portion sizes are phenomenal. I ordered the chicken dumplings, spicy beef & rice bowl, and pork lo mein for a party of 2. We had enough food to feel satiated and leftovers to take home. I got the bun and passionfruit sorbet for dessert. It was not listed on the menu and was a special for the day. I was not impressed with my drink (the kind you find at a secondhand store) because it tasted like juice and I could not taste the alcohol. My friend loved her drink (the 101 tower 15). Also my waiter was great and attentive!

I walked past Maketto this morning, and if your familiar with the restaurant there are windows at the side of the restaurant while walking passed.I witness one of the girls back there, placing her fingers in her mouth and licking her fingers with no gloves on while prepping food. After she licked her fingers, she put her hand immediately into a bag of what looked like icing and started moving her hands around in the bag of icing, again with no gloves on and she didn’t even wash her hands after licking her fingers. I was so shocked and looked at her and caught eye contact with her. She smiled at me (not knowing that I just saw her licking her fingers), I smiled at her but nicely made a hand gesture to wash her hands. She did nothing and then I made another gesture to let her know that I saw her, put her fingers in her mouth and lick her fingers. I nicely made another gesture again to wash her hands. She did nothing and continued mixing the what looked like icing using her bare unwashed hands. I no longer will be eating here. This is also the second time that I’ve walked past this restaurant and I have seen someone who works in the food prep/ back area of the restaurant, eating food while prepping it and placing their hands in their mouth. This is a key cause of food poisoning/contamination (which I’ve gotten before and it’s not fun to have).I’ve also seen someone working at the counter blow their nose once and not wash their hands but proceed to package food. It’s hard for me to leave a review like this but I think this is highly unacceptable and it is not a hygienic practice that should be used at a restaurant.

We stopped in for an afternoon beverage and dessert. Drinks were okay. The apple dessert was awesome; the fried dough and milk not so… Service was slow, plus they add on gratuity and ask for additional tip.

Great restaurant, but it's hard to pick up your takeout order when it's busy. I get their takeout a lot. Wish they had someone dedicated to the pick-up station during busy times.

Absolutely phenomenal. Inventive, delicious cuisine that's worth going out of your way for. Honestly, it's criminal that this place doesn't have a Michelin star. Generous portions are just the cherry on top. Get the Peking duck bao!Vegetarian options: There are some good and delicious vegetarian options, or things that can be made vegetarian. A vegetarian will also have a good time at this restaurant.

Wow. Everything we ate was phenomenal - the scallion pancake in particular was divine, but the vegetable gyoza, the wok-fried noodles, and the shrimp fried rice were truly outstanding. Service was excellent. There is something for everyone here, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.
