The swordfish was awesome. Wonderful service, the Chef Barry was fantastic. Ambience was on point.

Food was horrible and overpriced. 19 for ramen noodles with salt and pepper and 6 dollars for a soda water? After three of them, I was sitting here thinking that it was just carbonated fountain water. Abysmal experience. Nothing astonishing or special about this place.

Disappointed after being told we had to wait two hours at a popular spot down the road and popped into Pinea, and let me tell you- BEST disappointment ever! Justin seated us with a casual but responsive welcome, and set us up with drinks right away. We ordered the "Beeze" drinks all around and loved that local sourced honey is used plus a portion of each drink is donated to bee preservation. We ordered the smoked Eggplant appetizer and our love affair was cemented. Each entree was sublime and the desserts were heaven. So, feeling bored or disappointed by the old go to places? Walk on over to Pinea and bring your friends (if you want to hear all their thanks!)

After having walked all day with the monuments on an empty stomach we were starving. We were so tired we just decided the next place we saw would be where we sat down to eat, we didn't care what it was. We saw this place and immediately got seats. They brought us water immediately. Maybe it was because we were dehydrated or something but that water was the most delicious tap water I'd ever had. We began looking the menu and were plenty disappointed. Yes, the prices were a bit costly, but with our hunger we didn't care. What had us in a tizzy was the lack of options. It was mostly salads and I believe a sandwich or two. We had wanted something a bit heavier but there was nothing to really add some variety for our meal. Someone in my party had asked about a steak salad and we assumed it was a salad with steak in it but then the waitress informed us it was steak tomatoes I believe. We were really not having it then. I think I might have gone back just for a drink or something, but I wouldn't return for a meal. All in all, two stars because the water was extremely thirst quenching when I was so thirsty.

Pinea is in a perfect location in the District. Adjacent to Pinea is the White House and not too far is the Washington Monument. Aside from the location, the service was good. The waiter was personable, attentive, and made sure we had a high level experience. We ordered cocktails and they came out immediately. The cocktails were the worst part of the evening in terms of quality. However, that is a smudge in comparison to how the meal went. We (a party of 3) ordered the bucatini, the beef carpaccio, a Cesar salad, and the scallops. The scallops were exquisite, perfectly cooked, and combined well with the carrot purée and sautéed oyster mushrooms. The bucatini is their signature dish, a gigantic meatball that is well cooked, but under seasoned. I would definitely go back.

The food here is definitely better than the three stars on Yelp! I had the scallops with rhubarb, which was scrumptious. Someone in my party had the signature 1-pound meatball dish, which I hear was good-- I tried the bucatelli and sauce which came with it and they were quite tasty, but I don't eat pork so I didn't try the meatball itself. Another person in my party had the veggie paella which was also well-balanced and filling. The mussels come in a flavorful wine sauce, and the accompanying rosemary focaccia was definitely memorable. My favorite dessert was the tiramisu. The dessert menu was not the same as the one on the website now! Our waiter Jonathan was great and extremely friendly and helpful, as was the manager Oliver. I would recommend eating outside if you can.

We made a reservation for six people, and surprising at 6PM, the restaurant was practically ours. After some water-cooler chat (need to be hydrated in DC!), we started to feast. For starters, we ordered the Caesar with baby kale, parmigiano and anchovy. The nuttieness of the hazelnuts in the Pinea salad worked beautifully with the rest of the veggies, but my only complaint is the overdose of vinegar which made the whole thing too sour to digest. And I never thought I'd do this, but I did it. I ordered a burger. And I say this because I don't usually like burgers, but something about the Wagnyu-ness attracted me to it. I am so glad I did, because, it was the best burger I'd ever eaten. The patty was made with premier wagyu meat, grilled to perfection (for me, that's medium-well) with a bit of char. The smoky texture of the patty worked beautifully with the fontina that just melted into the patty. I can't really speak for the lamb in the lamb porterhouse, but the saffron fingerling potatoes were well done with a bit of crisp on the outside. The fava been purée added a nice touch of color to the dish. The vegetable paella came with spring vegetables and manchego cheese, with an option of chicken or shrimp. We got this one with shrimp, whose meat provided some contrast to the softness of the dish and gave it more oomph. The arctic char came with grilled veggie salad and charred lemon. It looked and probably tasted splendid. All in all, the Pinea was an excellent end to our DC sojourn, especially given its proximity to the Monument where you can go for a stroll afterwards for an evening walk. The total tab for six with six mains and four sides came out to be around $280, which is quite reasonable for this level of service and attention to detail. More details @ foodprof.com!

This restaurant is in the W hotel. The staff and service were awesome but the food was okay.

Not a bad choice. I ordered th Ny strip and my wife ordered their signature dish. Gigante meatball with spaghetti.. My steak came out with a nice crust of seasoning to go with a bourbon flavored sauce and roasted garlic that could have been garnish but definetly was utilized in my meal. Good. The golden mashed potatoes was life to me. My goat for this meal was the cheesecake. Just a plain ole cheesecake might have been far better. Overall good meal good experience.

As the weather gets warmer, there is no shortage of restaurants with al fresco dining! If you ever find yourself by the White House, don't miss the opportunity to stop by Pinea for a very extravagant outdoor (as well as indoor) dining experience. RUNDOWN: - Because of its prime location, it's often very packed and the seating outdoors is only available via reservations. However, if there's a seat at the outdoor bar, feel free to hang around there until your reservation. - They usually have fun events outside like Luche Libre fights during Cinco de Mayo, which are free admission (but this can add to how crowded it gets as well) - Service here is good, servers are attentive and very welcoming. The bartenders also have VERY generous pours, so I can't complain! - The food is yummy as well! Although everything is pretty pricey, they also have shareable dishes for groups, which is a major plus I look for. - They have two outdoor lanes of bocce ball! This further proves how great this place is for bringing groups of friends. TIPS/RECS: - *IMPORTANT* If you are seated outdoors, you CAN NOT order drinks from the bar (takes the tips away from your server). Order both food and drinks from your server. - Get reservations!! It's always super crowded, and you'll thank me later for this tip! TLDR; I am a huge fan of their service and food/drinks, IDEAL for groups of friends -- I'll definitely be back!

Probably the worst service I've had in a really long time, definitely not what I expected from a restaurant that's part of the W Hotel. First, there was a really long line waiting to be seated. We thought it was just busy but realized the hostess is operating on turtle speed with an apparent "I've lost all sense of joy in life" vibe. Maybe it's the Trump White House a block away sucking the life out of everything around it. Eventually we were seated and several tables around us had dirty plates, I'm guessing they don't have a busboy as the bartender would come out from behind the bar occasionally to clear tables (and fold napkins). Perhaps they should take a page from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort and hire a bunch of foreign workers to get their staffing up #MAGA #morejobsformurricans There were 2 servers for the entire floor of 25 or so tables so it took forever to order. We had to ask several times for water. The servers were about as absent as Melania Trump on the topic of cyber bullying. I'd deff avoid this place unless you're a DC politician who only works 100 days if the year and has endless free time because they don't do any actual work.

I want to go back and try this again when it's not festival/Easter-time. It seems like they could be good, but missed the mark for us on this trip. The patio and accessibility drew us here as we were walking to Old Ebbitt Grill, where we had originally planned to go. It's got plenty of seating, but is still very spacious - we easily parked a small stroller next to our table. The food was well-presented and fancy-sounding. I had a good wagyu beef burger, but it was a little too greasy and the fries on the side were cold and stale. The bathrooms were in the hotel itself, so they were clean, but you had to walk down the stairs and through the back of the hotel to get to them (not stroller friendly). The wait time was a little ridiculous, something like 30-45 minutes to get 2 burgers and a grilled cheese, but maybe that's because of the kite festival. The menus were irritating - those fancy ipads are no good for the patio during the day, you can't see the screen! At least the kids' menu was on paper. I was very impressed with the family-friendliness and kids' menu. All ages were welcome and there was space for everyone. The menu has everything from grilled cheese to grilled salmon. I felt safe and comfortable nursing my son there. It's basically an outdoors restaurant - the patio has a bar, couches, 4- and 2-person tables, large umbrellas, mature plants that screen you from the road noise, and outdoor space heaters. Altogether we liked it enough to return on a less busy day. That day, we found the menu options limited, the service took too long, and the late afternoon sun was in our eyes. I'll update the review on our next trip - and this is so conveniently placed near the museums, that'll likely be soon.

It's good when they are not hosting a party and you get booted or denied a drink. Small. Quiet. Decent snacks.
