Horrible service from the “OWNER” No professionalism or class and the place has roaches. The only thing I wanted from here was the gumbo but after I heard they don’t toss the the food out that’s contaminated they just scoop it out no thank you!

Tasteless, bland food, you can detect that it's from the can, and the meat that I had was overcooked and flavorless. The soul rolls don't have any meat while being beautiful they lack girth and flavor. Staff husband and wife are nice and personable.

I wasn't a fan of the Mac& Cheese or sweet potato pie but the greens, fried liver, and chicken wings were definitely good. You get your bang for your buck. Soul Kitchen is takeout only no dine-in. The prices are average. Parking not to bad. The location made it easy to find the restaurant because it was on the corner. Customer service was ok. Y'all, everything is hand made and fresh, not from cans. I seen one of the cooks cutting up some fresh green beans. I will be back because the menu looks good.

This was a delivery order from Grubhub. Kudos to Grubhub for speedy delivery with a perfect handoff. But this review is about food, in this case, smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes with gravy, collard greens, black eyed peas, red velvet cake. The only edible dishes were the potatoes with gravy and the red velvet cake, both good with taste, texture and appearance on point. Smothered pork chops are supposed to be pork chops slow braised in gravy until tender. In this dinner, the pork chops were fried to boot leather status and doused in gravy. Collard greens are supposed to contain leaves separated from woody stems. My plate contained fully half as many stems as collard leaves. Both the chops and the greens tossed into the trash. The black eyed peas were a heresy!! I've been eating black eyed peas for 70 years, flavored with smoked meat and tender. One look at this dish put me off immediately. Lots of chunky vegetable matter dotted the peas. What the heck? Well, okay...I took a bite...and spit it out. The flavor was straight up chili beans. I've had disappointing food before but this mess made me straight up angry. I should have thrown $50 right in the trash and skipped this nasty mess. I'm a visitor to Washington DC but I will certainly NOT be ordering from Soul Kitchen this trip or in the future. I'm offended!

Busy weekend IN DC, I googled this place, walking distance from my daughter's condo on same street.Upon arrival I was undecided and then I saw " Fried Gizzards"....hooked.They were fresh and hot out the Grease.A dinner roll and some hot sauce and French fries it was a done deal.Excellent food choices, service and priced right.Wish I had found them 4 yra ago when daughter started HU

I ordered a cheese burger & two dinners. The cheese burger was hard & burnt. I asked to have less onions & more noodles in my lomein the cashier told me I can't pick & choose its mixed up. I feel if I'm paying my money I should get what I want ! I told him this place has fallen off he responded no we have not fallen off. I won't be returning.

Sometimes, I order the ribs. A few times, they were great. The last two times, the ribs were too tough. I could not chew them. I had to throw them out. If they took the time to boil the ribs just soft enough to fall off the bone, people would flock just for the ribs. That's my only complaint.

5 stars to the food but no stars to the cashier guy with all the tattoos who works up front..he clearly does not want to work there. He's just there for the money...very unpleasant attitude....he just brushes you off when you have a question or if there's been a mistake on their part of mispreparing your plate...i no longer go there because of him...i wish they had another cashier....mid Atlantic soul food on Queens chapel is good, VERY PLEASANT STAFF...ID RATHER GO THERE...

While visiting my old stomping grounds (DC), I decided to visit Soul Kitchen again. This place may not look like much but it's worth a try if you're in the area. The parking lot is a bit weird so if you're good at playing the game of Tetris with your car or "dodge the person backing up on you without looking" then you'll be good! Once you enter it's a no frills kind of place but the aroma of soul food is worth it. They offer your standard soul food offerings: wings, chicken, fish, collard greens, hush puppies, etc. The service is a bit slow so I would suggest ordering ahead for pickup. Listen, I'm all for a speedy run in and run out takeout service but we have to learn to have patience sometimes (I'm talking to myself more than anyone else!). The food is yummy and definitely a splurge at the expense of my arteries but...worth it! Don't judge me just try it and see. Let's show some love to a black-owned business (and not just during the shortest month of year, smh). Pros:- well seasoned food, not greasy- black owned business doing their thing!- decent prices for DC- at least they try to have a parking lot in the city instead of having you spend 20 mins finding street parking and later noticing you actually parked on the wrong side of the street now need to move your car before getting towed...just sayin!Cons:- location can be a bit off putting but it's fine- speed of service (but remember, patience is key so I'm not sure if this is really a con)...just order ahead!
