Taste of the Islands Restaurant offers a delightful array of flavorful dishes, including oxtail, curry chicken, stewed chicken, fish soup, jerk chicken, and ackee & salt fish. The vegetables are fresh, and the meat is well-cleaned and marinated. The natural drinks, such as carrot juice, sorrel juice, and pineapple/watermelon/ginger drinks, are exceptional. The restaurant has a simple, neighborhood feel and is in the process of improving its appearance and hygiene.
The service can be variable, but the tasty food more than makes up for it. Many diners have praised dishes like oxtail and jerk pork for their great taste and generous portions, often resulting in leftovers. The atmosphere is relaxed, making it a good spot for those looking to enjoy authentic island cuisine without a fancy setting.
The restaurant offers a counter service experience, with tables and counter seating available for diners to seat themselves. The ambiance is casual, often featuring posters about local reggae and dancehall music events. The new management/ownership has received positive feedback from customers.
Overall, Taste of the Islands Restaurant is a great choice for laid-back diners who appreciate flavorful meals and a welcoming ambiance. The jerk chicken mini meal is a popular menu item, and the cost-to-food ratio is considered excellent for the area.
