Based on the reviews, HotWax Coffee Shop & Tap House is a solid Ybor City spot with a unique vibe that blends coffee culture with a laid-back tap house feel. The atmosphere stands out right away, with music-inspired décor, relaxed seating, and a cool neighborhood energy. People, drinks, and atmosphere are stellar here. Drinks are good whether you drink kava/kratom or get coffee. The addition of sex toys and bongs in the adjacent space lend a touch of sass and the walls are covered in interesting art pieces. All the events are a good time, including trivia on Wednesdays. A tender was really kind and helped make a unique drink, recommending a pineapple coconut kombucha with added ginger that was so good. However, the kratom has so much lemon in it that it is very acidic. HotWax delivers a fun mix of coffee shop comfort and bar lounge character.
