Wiener schnitzel tough and salty. The management graciously swapped out for Jaeger schnitzel but it was just mediocre. The German potato salad and red cabbage were awesome. Perhaps try their wurst paired with the sides. The staff was sweet and accomodating. I brought home a piece of black forest cake. I wouldn't buy it again. It tasted like a box cake. Only had maybe 2 cherries in it, no kirch like the real thing, kinda dry. Oh well, ate it with coffee, just okay.

Having lived in Germany, I loved the German foods. I was so disappointed by the food at Hofbrauhaus in Helen, GA. I had my goto favorite Rahmschnitzel, the best thing on my plate was the red cabbage. The schnitzel and the spaetzle were tasteless and lacked any similarity to their German counter parts.

We had “ Jager schnitzel”. Worst we have ever had. Meat was overcooked and dry.Mushroom gravy also had bacon flavor..horrible. To top off, they used dried parsley flakes instead if fresh parsley. I would definitely steer clear of this restaurant! Our bill for 2 horrible dinners with 1 beer and 1 diet soda was $71.00. Before tip !Sad part…the waiter was very nice.

Came back to Helen for my wife's birthday specifically to go to this restaurant. All of the waitress were dressed in alpine wear that looked authentic. They took time to explain the German fare to their guest.... all except one guy in a t-shirt that, you guessed it waited on our table and explained nothing. Im thinking we Would have enjoyed the food much better if we knew what we where ordering. Unfortunately we realized this after we had ordered and more guest began to get seated around us. Great example of how a server can make or break your meal.Parking: Parking is across the street. Its unmarked and looks like it could be for another place. Had to go in and ask to be sure.

I'm torn on this review, and I gave it a lot of thought before committing to this. The service was top-notch. I was alone on this trip, and it was there around 3pm, so ahead of lunch, and before the dinner rush. I was immediately seated and I had reviewed the menu before entering.Full disclosure, I love German food and I am a bit picky with it. I have also been to Germany and I have spent a lot of time in Leavenworth, WA, but had always heard of Helen, GA and how quaint it is, so the bar was set high due to this.I ordered my meal and it was in front of me in less than 10 minutes. The service was incredible! I wasn't the only patron there, but you wouldn't have known this based on service alone. My order was accurate, and everything was hot. Portion sizes were not as big as I was hoping, but in a post Covid world, I've noticed portion sizes have been shrinking everywhere, so perhaps that is a moot point. So why only two stars? This isn't the best schnitzel I have had, I was underwhelmed by it and the German potato Salad. The red cabbage to me was the highlight and it wasn't too sweet. The portion sizes were on the small side for me. Being that I am trying to lose weight, that isn't a bad thing, but for what you are paying, I found it disappointing. The breading on the schnitzel was just OK at best, and the herbs were odd, I've never seen green herbs as abundant into Schnitzel breading. The German potato salad was warm, the kind I like, but lacked the vinegar tanginess that I am accustomed to, and was more buttery. It wasn't horrible, but definitely the meal as a whole was underwhelming and not as good as I was hoping for.The service and the atmosphere were incredible, as was the river view. My glass of water never went empty, the server and host worn the traditional clothing, and the restaurant was well themed and was a visual and nasal delight.Would I go back? Yes! So why did I only give two stars? The food. It just wasn't up to par with anywhere I have been or had in the past. Is it close? Sure. If this was a game of horseshoes, it's close enough, but I wouldn't put it in a top 30 based on food alone. Overall atmosphere and service, easily top five. That's why I have 2 stars. If we were getting nitty-griity, 2.2 stars out of 5. I would change the potato salad recipe and take some of the herbs out of the schnitzel breading. I would try something else on the menu next time is all. Plus, this was my first experience here, it deserves another try with my family.Oh, unrelated: I think Helen is better themed than Leavenworth, and mainly because there are far more structures with the Bavarian theme than Leavenworth has. It was cloudy on my visit so I couldn't see surrounding mountains or hills, but that is one thing that Leavenworth has over Helen. Since this was my only stop on this trip, I wanted to throw that out there. I will bring my family through next time too!Parking: Parking is across the street. Do use the crosswalk, it's the safest way to cross, even though it's not exactly convenient.Kid-friendliness: They have kids portions and it's family friendlyWheelchair accessibility: Should not be any issues with parking across the street and going through the marked crosswalk and into the building. Seats can easily be rearranged.

The food was ok for me. I had the schnitzel, but the sauce wasn't as good as I've had at other places, so it was a little disappointing. It was kind of a butter sauce, maybe?Potato salad was excellent, service was good, and the atmosphere outside on the patio was nice. The restaurant was closed for private party on the inside, but we had a guy playing the guitarand singing outside. Great spot for a beverage on the water!

I've been coming here for the past 10 years when I travel to Helen. But the food is different, not like it used to be with the old owners. There is a better German restaurant in town that has been consistent over the years.
