The Hanalei Gourmet

We enjoyed lunch at The Hanalei Gourmet last week. I had the fish taco and my husband had fish and chips. By far, the best fish taco I have ever had. It was delicious and I am craving another one as I sit back home here in Oregon. Our compliments to the chef. Everything I saw being delivered to the tables looked delicious as well! The views go without saying, Hanalei is gorgeous. A wonderfully perfect day!

Love, love, love Hanalei Gormet. For me it's some of the best food on the island. Simply delicious food, fresh & scrumptious. My favorite is the fish & chips...its usually the catch of the day fish. Lately it's been Hebi, which I've never had before, but now I'm a fan. It's cook's up white and its firm but very mild tasting..not at all fishy. Served with awesome fries that I think they've got a panko or slight batter on them that makes the outside so crunchy but the insides are nice and soft. It also comes with coleslaw, that not sweet, as I'm not a fan of sweet coleslaw. Tarter sauce & this wasabi sauce, that has just a hint of heat...I prefer tarter sauce on my fish, but the wasabi was fantastic as a fry dipping sauce. My other favorite is Tim's Burger....heavenly.
My mom's favorite is the Coconut Shrimp, she'll let you know it's the best she's gotten anywhere. My sister loves the salads, as we all do and the Hanalei Waldorf is a wonderful twist to the real McCoy. We've also tried the Nachos, they were really good and since were native Texans were quite surprised. Salsa was quite tasty without having a lot of heat, so my brother-in-law who can't tolerate hot spicy food loved it.

Go before 5pm if you want the bigger menu. Chef leaves at 5pm & they go to a lighter menu. Happy hour starts at 5pm.
We had the Hebi Fish & chips, fish sandwich & one of their burgers. Fries were awesome. Fish & chips was lovely, as was the fish sandwich.
I dthink we've ever ordered something & not liked it. Great dining spot, we always make sure we get at least one meal here if not more.
9/17/2024 I got the Loco Moco it was delicious. I was very surprised at how much, I liked this dish. Can understand why it's a local favorite.
Love this place, we go at least once per visit to the island.

Great atmosphere but tasteless food and slow service. The club sandwich looked like something from a school cafeteria and was very disappointing.

Late lunch. We were seated quickly, but the table and seats were sticky and not cleaned or wiped properly. We ordered burgers and fries that were no better than a fast food restaurant. Not worth the price, and my child's tummy was upset after his meal. So many other restaurants in the area, skip this one.

Vegetarian options: Veggie Burger- was not good!

I've been going to the gourmet for 30 years. I will never go back again. The new owner who refused to seat me because he said I was rude. The only person that was rude and crude was him.

Server was rude. Waited 45 minutes to get our food. They charged me 2.00 for cheddar on a grilled cheese sandwich!, that was already an option. Server was not happy when I pointed it out. Too many other options to waste my time and money here.

Wow! The vibe is wonderful with local art on the walls in a bright, older building. Seating is available inside and out. Drinks were very strong. Food is amazing. Swordfish was the fish of the day, and my fish and chips was made with the swordfish! First time I've ever had fish and chips that fancy. Portions are on the smaller side so plan ahead!

Went for happy hour based on the large sign posted outside but it definitely was not happy. $1 or 50 cents off on drinks was all that was offered and the bartender was just deeply unfriendly. Go to any of the places across the street.

This is a little hidden gem in Hanalei. We had the best food here on a mid afternoon stop. The Pin̈a colada rum float with local Hanalei rum was fantastic. The fish sandwich was a huge hit with my wife and I had fish and chips which was some of the best I've ever had. The fresh catch for today was marlin. Make the stop at Hanalei Gourmet, you won't be disappointed! And do not pass on the Kauai pie!!

The fish was very lightly breaded and cooked perfectly. My wife enjoyed her burger and the server was very attentive.

Nice food options and they are not that expensive for a north shore restaurant.

This is sort of a raggedy bar turned into a restaurant. It is a cool place to hang out whether you live here or you're just visiting. A lot of famous people hang out here that live in the neighborhood. You have to come by here if you're visiting. It's been one of my favorite places for a quick lunch or a mai tai and some dinner back when I lived here. Check it out!
