Nori's | Saimin and Snacks is a beloved, cozy restaurant in Hilo known for its homestyle, flavorful dishes and nostalgic atmosphere. Although it no longer offers dine-in service, the take-out experience remains impressive, with limited hours from 11-6 on Fridays through Sundays. The establishment is a local landmark that brings back childhood memories for many and continues to serve generous, authentic portions of its signature dishes.

The menu features a variety of hearty meals such as the Big Plate, which includes mac salad, fried noodles, musubis, kalbi, fish jun, BBQ beef, and chicken skewers—all served for around $30, offering enough to feed multiple people. The kalbi is sweet, flavorful, and meaty, while the BBQ beef is tender and tasty. The fried fish, prepared in jun style with egg batter, is flaky and moist, complemented by a tartar sauce with a hint of mustard. Though the chicken skewers can be overcooked and dry, they are still delicious, especially with the sweet and savory brushed sauce. The fried noodles are soft, springy, and plentiful, although somewhat bland. The mac salad is mild and could use more seasoning, but the generous servings make up for it. Musubis are large rice balls with nori, satisfying but simple.

Nori's also offers Hilo style saimin, featuring fresh, springy noodles in a savory broth with naruto, spam, and green onions. The Hilo style wonton saimin uses ramen noodles, giving a different twist. The restaurant's signature dish, Fried Saimin, is highly recommended—flavorful, well-seasoned, and served dry with perfectly cooked noodles that mimic the taste of the traditional broth. The Chocolate Mochi Cake is a standout dessert, famous for its rich, chocolatey flavor and a touch of sweetness.

Despite the limited hours and take-out-only policy, Nori's continues to be a treasured spot for authentic, satisfying local cuisine, offering dishes that evoke comfort and nostalgia.
