ChoGa-Jip Hawaii is an authentic, old-school Korean restaurant in Honolulu, known for its big portions, strong flavors, and comforting food. It is not trendy but fills a specific role as a late-night spot for heavy and spicy comfort food, reminiscent of traditional Korean home cooking. The restaurant is very nice and clean, with a convenient small parking lot out front. It gets busy quickly, so going early is recommended.
The food is amazing and delicious. Standout dishes include the Soon tofu soup, considered one of the best, and the perfectly seasoned spicy pork bulgogi. The chive jeon is a notable standout, described as thin, crispy, and delicious. Other menu items like the galbijjim, army stew, kimchi stew, and spicy pork bibimbap are also enjoyed, though some broths could have a little more flavor. The side dishes, especially the seaweed one, are particularly loved.
Service is consistently excellent, with super friendly, helpful, and accommodating staff. Servers are genuinely thoughtful, even offering hot tea without prompting. They are very welcoming and helpful in explaining the menu. Overall, it is an easy go-to spot for satisfying, authentic Korean food.
