This is a low-key, modest spot tucked away from the main tourist areas—you’ll mostly see locals here, which is always a good sign. I really enjoyed the food; it’s the simple, but good kind of meal you’ll remember having in Hawaii.

The loco moco is legit and definitely worth trying. I’d recommend pairing it with one of their smoked meats—together, it’s an unbeatable combo.

If you want to experience the real local atmosphere, stop at Guava Smoke at your way from the airport to Waikiki; Google Map it. Get the medium size if not too hungry or large if you want leftovers.

Small hole in the wall restaurant with great food! Had their butterfish collars, kalbi ribs, and smoked pork. All were really good! Portion sizes are pretty big too especially for the price. Wanted to try the smoked salmon bellies since they seem to have a good rep, but it seems they’re out of season right now..
