The wine director's vast knowledge and impressive selection of wines are notable, though the list of wines by the glass is modest. The attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff, along with friendly and attentive management, ensure a welcoming atmosphere. The menu features a thoughtful and surprising journey of Hawaiian flavors, including Kampachi, scallops, lobster risotto, and wagyu, making Mugen a recommended destination. Every course is served on a different plate from a different prefecture of Japan, each one beautiful and fascinating. The experience, food, service, presentation, and pacing are curated to perfection, though the wagyu may occasionally have a tendon. The atmosphere is dead on, but some guests may find phone conversations distracting. It’s one of the best meals for celebrating life—pop a bottle and indulge.
