According to their Instagram they reopened on 2/3/24 offering walk-ins only (no reservations) with just a note they were closed the day of 2/10/24. I went Friday 2/16 and they were closed for dinner :(

The best service and family. Small business with a big heart. Opel and Lio were very attentive to our family, while Aoy along with the rest of the staff prepared our meal. Great food, great atmosphere, wonderful people. Praying the family is doing well. Can't wait to visit again the next time in in Honolulu.

You might love or hate everything about this place but it can’t be both… surprisingly, I loved it. I only say that because usually I’m a traditionalist as far as restaurants go. The food was phenomenal and although we waited about two hours to get into this exclusive little place, where else does the chef personally sit with you and tell you what you should eat based off what you like? Him and his son would be arguing and serving and cooking and laughing, Opal Thai transports you into a movie scene… The location has enough tables not to feel too crowded and the food again, so good. I won’t be missing it next time I’m in Honolulu, wait or no wait. I just hope the chef remembers me.

My boyfriend and I visited Opal Thai last year during our trip to Oahu. It took us a little while to find parking nearby the location but we were glad to experience this place in the end. We waited about 15 minutes before getting seated but during that time, the owner Opal, came and introduced himself to us and shook our hand. That made us feel very welcome and the ambience was very chill. After getting our drinks, Opal came by and sat with us. He asked us if we ever had thai food before and I shared that I loved pineapple friend rice from a Thai place I used to order take out from years ago. My boyfriend is not much of a talker with people he doesn't know, while me on the other hand, I'm the talker. Opal would sometimes pause me to get my boyfriend's point of view which I did find annoying but it wasn't enough to ruin my experience LOL. After our conversation, he decided what we were having for dinner. The first dish was amazing. Apparently we can't even know what we're eating but it tastes similar to potatoes and nothing we've had before. The entrees were great too. We shared the plates. They would also constantly check in on us which was a plus. Definitely a great food experience. Would love to come back

Opal offers numerous vegan-friendly choices. Additionally, despite arriving 20 minutes before closing and staying an hour after due to a late family member's arrival to Oahu, everyone was exceptionally friendly. Opal's son, in particular, is a remarkable and kind young man. The overall experience was incredible. ???☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ Over the years, I've brought my friends, spouse, and all our friends to Opal's because we adore Aoy's food. Every time, everyone has been truly impressed by the distinctive Thai cuisine and the wonderful energy from Opal. This ohana holds a special place in my heart.

Opal is my guy. You better know they type of Thai food you like, no poser. This place is legit good. We did get our car towed parking in the lot across the street. Still worth it.
Last year my family and I found opal thai during vacation and we had the best experience ever. From the food to the service and experience, everything was 10/10. We have never had Thai food this authentic in our lives, we were blown away. You can tell that he really wants all of his guests to have a great experience in his restaurant. It truly felt like he was letting us into his house and treating us like we were his guests. The other workers there were so kind and hardworking as well. We truly enjoyed eating and talking to opal. Eating at opal Thai was definitely the highlight of our vacation. He even agreed to taking a picture with my family. we were truly touched by his kindness

My boyfriend and I love Opal Thai. We would try to go at least twice a month. I could definitely confidently say that Opal Thai is my favorite Thai restaurant. The first time we went, Opel asked us what our favorite Thai dishes were and ordered for us. It is kinda like omakase, but Thai food. The past several times, Opel has given us a menu and lets us order whatever we please. I think the omakase style is only recommended for first-time customers to help broaden their horizons with Thai food. Everything we have had at Opal has never disappointed. We LOVE the tom yum and can't find anywhere else that does it like they do. I also highly recommend the nam khao with Lao sausage. Opel is very attentive and has such an outgoing personality. I feel like his style of serving may not cater to everyone, but Opel has such good energy and really only wants the best for his customers. His staff members are very friendly and my water cup is never empty! We hope to go back as soon as they open and love supporting this mom-and-pop shop. We definitely feel like family when we're there and are always taken good care of.

Always good. Been going here for years and they are consistent. The 1 star reviews are due only to preference. Opal has a style. For a small subset of people, they don't like it. For everyone else, it is fun and delicious.

This is the best Thai food you will ever have in your life, so stop looking and just make a reservation here.We have brought literally every single one of our friends visiting from the mainland (areas where they have ample choice of Asian cuisine) and all of them left with their jaws dropping at how good the food is at opals. One of my friends even said this was the best dining experience of her life.
