My family and I were passing through this cute little town and decided to stop here.

We bought a couple of souvenirs including 3 jellies to take home from our family vacation strawberry, apricot and hot lime ginger. All three were not only delicious they were with aloha!

Unfortunately not much in the way of baked goods when we stopped and we probably would have left it at that and went on our way if not for Wyatt, the extremely helpful and knowledgeable gentleman operating the counter and bombarding us with endless samples of their jams/sauces/fruit butters etc.
Very impressive range of flavours, several featuring local fruits we had never seen or heard of. Wyatt was happy to share his knowledge of the products and sample whatever we wanted of the many dozens of options available.

Very cute little bakery on the way from Akaka falls. Felt very local with homemade baked goods and tons of selection of jams and jellies. The guy who worked the front was very friendly and was happy to make recommendations. I got their ube jam and pepper jam and it was great. Will love to return if I’m ever in that area.

Mr. Ed's has been a fixture in the community for decades. I love all of the varieties of jams and various preserves. Unfortunately, the bakery side is non-operational due to an electrical fire. It saddens me to think that I won't be able to have fresh pastries from there again. I will still support this fine establishment as long as they are in business, and I recommend you come give it a try.

Wonderful place and very lovely, friendly staff. Highly recommend to sample their jams / butters (I purchased 2 jars - tasted soo yummy!) and the whole street in this lovely small town is worth a short visit when you're going to Akaka Falls!

This purple sweet potato spread is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. I am convinced it is made with magic.
I’ll probably spend the remainder of my life chasing the pure euphoria of my first bite of this on a graham cracker.

Bakery is closed due to no electricity. They have a small store next door with a tiny bit of random bakery items. No Malasadas.

Our tour guide around the island offered to take us to an 'adorable little quaint 1-street town' that time sort of forgot, but they roll out the welcome wagon for the tour vans. HONOMO, Hawaii. It had a main-street with about 6 or 7 little shops including a coffee shop, a great antique shop (specializing in antique glass bottles of all things), a convenience store and souvenir shop. And then there was Mr. Ed's Bakery. The wonderful smell saturated up and down the whole street. There were amazing pastries and breads and cookies, but the real star of the show for me was the gigantic wall of homemade fruit jams. Walls and walls of unique jams. Everything you can think of, all combinations, literally hundreds of jars. Mr. Ed's son works there and will let you sample all of them. There were sweet, and spicy, and exotic Hawaiian fruit and berry combinations. Did I mention you can happily sample all of them!! I took home a jar of the Ohelo berry jam. (NOTE: DO NOT take these jars through TSA at the airport in your carry-on bag. They are over the TSA size limit and they will absolutely snatch it up out of your backpack!!!)
The greatest part was Mr. Ed himself was there, sitting in a chair just chilling. I sat down with him and we chatted for a good 15 minutes. He is the nicest guy! We talked about the weather, and rain, and the berries, and his lumbar spine issues, and farming. I could spend all day sitting there eating pastries and jams and talking about the weather with Mr. Ed. It was beautiful, like Mayberry. I would go back to the east side of the island again just to spend a day in Honomu with Mr. Ed.

Mr. Eds Bakery in Honomu will be closing their doors soon. Mr. Ed said it's time for him to retire. He said they'll be open until his jams and jellies are sold out.
