Based on the reviews, Laverne's Big Island Alehouse & Restaurant is the most chill place in Kona with spectacular views right across the road from the ocean. Go upstairs to catch the breeze and watch dolphins jumping in the bay. The drinks are cold and 30% less than the rest of the strip, even better during happy hour. The food is delicious; the Oak fish and chips was the best on the island, the loco moco is by far the best in Kona, and the burger with bacon and fries is very good. There is ample seating with indoor and outdoor seating, both have bars, and it is pet-friendly. Service can vary; some bartenders are a Rockstar, while others are not very friendly, but the wait staff is welcoming and the service is generally good and excellent. There are extra charges for almost everything, including a side and sauce, and they were out of several menu items. Overall, it is perfection for watching the game on tv.
