Ok so I must preface this with saying as a food snob in Sonoma county we expect great food and are very often disappointed. This place, did not disappoint in the least! Chef Vince Matsumoto is among the best chefs. The intricacies of his flavor choices and how delicate his layers are were perfection. Well done chef, well done!A side note: we ate at humuhumunukunukuapua'a the following night on Maui and paid twice as much and left extremely disappointed, they could use some major help with their menu!We will be bragging about this meal for a long time! Had the potstickers, crab and corn fritters, the Caesar salad, for entrees the ribeye and the Mac-Nut Shutome. All were amazing!!! Can’t wait to visit again next time! (Oh and the guava lemonade and homegrown cocktails ?!)
Got a walk up no reservation seating for two. (Plus baby in the stroller) Service was good and the food was excellent. Recommend reserving two weeks in advance if you eat seating with a view. The blue crab corn fritter was delicious. We ordered the blacked ahi (good but not mind blowing), the cauliflower cream was really good! The plantation paella was also really good. Service was excellent and attentive.
Incredible meal!!!! We got the Brussel sprouts, titaki, drunken chicken and drinks. Absolutely amazing. All of it. I got the guava lemonade which was such a yummy drink too. I think this is the best meal I’ve had in a really long time and I go out to eat a lot all over the world. If you’re in Kauai I highly recommend this place. So so so delicious!!!!!
Oh my … this restaurant is a must go in Kauai. So nice, peaceful and beautiful. The service was 11/10, we had Ashley as our server and she was the nicest waitress in Kauai.. since you walk in the hostess is extremely welcoming and nice. The people who serve the water are super nice and welcoming as well.. then the star of the servers Ashley, such a good person. Also the runners who brings the food to the table, extremely nice as well. I mean .. when I say service is over the top good, it means every single person who works in this restaurant makes you feel welcome with a sincere smile. We definitely appreciate it that .. food is 11/10, extremely good. We weren’t that hungry and we were going to go to the airport after dinner to go back to our home, so we didn’t order that much food, but everything was insane good. And obviously because we had the best waitress, she somehow knew that we were in our honeymoon and she gave us a free dessert on top of the one that we ordered. So nice! A must go in Kauai.

Great food, very poor service. Our orders came at irregular intervals, with long gaps. Short-handed on wait staff and maybe in the kitchen. Our server did their best but was way overstretched. Need to get more staff or cut back on reservations.

Whenever we are in Poipu, we make it a point to have dinner at the Eating House. The food is always good , as is the service. It has gotten a bit pricey as it is everywhere, but it is better for us to share a meal, as our appetites won't allow us to eat a full entree by ourselves anyway.
This was our first time at Eating House 1849 in Koloa. We were so very pleased to find a 'fine dining' establishment close where we were lodging in Poipu. We were a party of 11, 6 adults and 5 children. We called a week ahead to make our reservation for right when they opened at 5:00 pm and were glad we did. The restaurant became very busy soon after we arrived. The wait staff was great. The team approach used here worked very well. Perhaps the best I have ever seen. The Pupu (appetizer) choices were tasty. Even out 9, 7, and 5 year olds enjoyed the pot stickers, brussel sprouts, blue crab corn fritters, and edamame. We all tried something different but the adult favorites may have been the Spicy Ramen Bowl and Blackened Ahi Tuna. Our main server was 'Richard' who attended our every need. He made sure we had everything we needed and quickly responded when we amended our orders or needed more drinks. The house desserts were delicious also. We ordered several and shared them among the group.

Excellent, delicious food! Butterfish was amazing as always. Only complaint would be wayyyyyy too many interruptions of conversations by service staff. One person would come by asking “how is everything tasting?” And exactly 30 seconds later another person would come by asking the exact same thing! This Happened with each or our courses . People would also stop by multiple times, interrupting our conversation to ask if we needed water . Just filling the water glass would have been perfect :). So, we counted, in total we were Interrupted 9 times asking similar questions by service staff. The waitress herself was great, but the service staff and constant questioning with the same question needs to be reviewed and tempered.

Absolutely delicious food and wonderful presentations! All five of us loved our appetizers, meals and desserts. Strangely enough, our only complaint is that the staff was overly attentive, and needlessly interrupted our conversation at Least 10 times. Of course you expect this for taking orders, and serving plates, but it felt like constant interruption every few minutes, and always a question that needed to be answered. We all love good service, but water can be poured, without asking. A simple walk by the table and a guest can ask if they need something. There were three, maybe four people who frequently came by asking us the same question, and after awhile, it became annoying, as conversation was next to impossible.We LOVE the Eating House, and look forward to returning, however, service could be much improved by being more subtle, and less interuptive, unless it is truly necessary.
