Piilani Kitchen is a little gem and a true local favorite on the Hamakua Coast, offering some of the best food on the island. The place is awesome, clean, and cozy with a lovely small patio and a view of the Pacific Ocean. It is located inside a little store that sells beverages, snacks, and local gift shop trinkets.
The food is exceptional, fantastic, and really good, made with simple local ingredients that are fresh and prepared just after ordering. Portions are generous and prices are fair and reasonable. The menu has a large variety for everyone's taste, including vegetarian dishes. Standout items include the delicious sourdough birria tacos, pork tacos, amazing sandwiches, and the fantastic Kahlúa pork nachos, cubano, and kimchi reuben.
The vibe is perfect for locals and tourists. While there aren't a lot of drink or seating options, with picnic tables outside, the quality of the food more than makes up for it. The employees are very friendly and helpful. With plenty of parking across the street, it is a short drive up from the botanical gardens and absolutely worth a visit.
