Servers are super friendly and helpful with the menu if you have questions. Good bourbon selection.

Good pizza . Salads are tasty. Fun cocktail menu. Fish dishes are also tasty. Perfectly cooked shrimp.

My wife and I together with our best friends, had a three-week holiday in June / July 2026 staying at The Shores, Waikoloa beach, Hawaii Big Island. We partly chose the location due to the proximity of the Tropics Ale House which had good reviews online and was only a short walk from our holiday accommodation.
It was a great decision because the Tropics was fabulous and became our regular haunt, visiting virtually every day.
The staff were brilliant. Ori (sorry for the spelling if it is wrong), his mother, sister, brother and Dudley made us so very welcome.

The drinks and food were very good and reasonably priced compared to other establishments we visited, especially in the ‘happy 3 hours’ 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM daily.
We cannot thank Ori together with his family and friends enough for helping to make our trip so brilliant and memorable.

Thank you very much,

Richard, Chris, Bill and Julia.

Great spot with a local vibe away from the resorts. A refreshing feel of local bar and restaurant within walking distance of the Hilton and Marriott. Great bourbon and whisky selection. A nice relief of the resort pricing.

The food was very good. Good portion sizes for the poke bowl, pizza. And Wings weee above a rage size. The Fish and chips only came with two pieces of fish though. The fried chicken are little breaded pieces but a lot of them. Little crunchy and delicious choice of sauces.

Drinks were average size 16 oz , but packed full of ice. Even when I requested no ice. When refills finally came around, I got another lemonade, full of ice again, but the second time there was someone else’s cherry stem in my obviously previously used cup. Yuck!

When I mentioned this. Her response was “wasn’t that someone at your table anyway?” Being a local Kapua Kane, (Local grandfather) I was ready to get good service from this young Wahine, but she must have been having one bad day!

Aloha, I would like to speak about how incredible rude our server was. She didn’t care about anything or about taking care of us. She brought our food late and also forgot to put our food in and we got our other food late as well. She didn’t care about anything she did or her job, they need better servers. Coming to the big island and hearing about this place. Would never recommend it to anyone and would never come back. Horrible restaurant in waikoloa.

We had an amazing experience here! The food was delicious, and the prices were very reasonable, especially for being on an island resort.

We first visited for a wedding rehearsal dinner and received outstanding service. Our waiter was so friendly, engaging, and always made sure everything was perfect, checking in often to see if we needed anything.

He made such a great impression on us that we came back a second time during our vacation just to see him again. Exceptional service like that is hard to find. We highly recommend this restaurant!

We had a wonderful rehearsal and welcome dinner for our son’s wedding with a party of about 25. Our tables were ready for us when we arrived and the service was friendly and amazing! We highly recommend this location if you need to host a pre-wedding dinner like we did!

Our group enjoyed so many delicious meals including the Pupu Steak and Mushrooms, Mauka to Makai Tacos, Greek Salad, Mushroom Swiss Burger, and more!

The view of the palm trees and golf course outside of the windows was also a treat for a large group mostly from Michigan.

But honestly, the best part was the conversation with the managers and staff. Thank you Tropics Ale House!

Location and price were great, as was the service. Our waiter was fantastic. Food was ok, nothing crazy. First restaurant this week that we spent under $100 for a family of 4. Little disappointed that there are no draughts available and we’re out of the 2 canned beers I wanted. Also, menu needs to be updated as they are no longer offering Brussels sprouts as an appetizer. There were also several other items either out of stock or not ready for dinner at 6pm. Would’ve been nice to be offered a substitute for my side that half of it wasn’t available.

Really enjoyed the burgers and fries here the burger was literally twice the width of my bun. The fries were a little over salted and seasoned for my taste, but I know many people like that.

Service was great and attentive and it’s definitely of the more affordable places in the area for a meal. They have sports playing on large screens which I normally don’t like, but was done very well. In the space they weren’t super loud or in your face. I can imagine enjoy enjoying a beer with friends and watching a game here and really liking the experience .

Would definitely return to try some of their other items next time we visit the island.

One of my favorite places to eat in the Waikoloa Beach Resort area. It is near the hotel we stay at so it's easy to walk to, without needing to drive. It has a great atmosphere and great staff, which makes it a great location for dinner, even with a larger group. And the food is amazing. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. Made with mahi mahi, the flavor was smooth and the breading was not overbearing. I would highly recommend Tropics to anyone staying in the Waikoloa Beach Resort area and I can't wait to go back for another great meal.

This was a close food option after arriving on the island later in the evening with 5 very hungry people and many restaurants already closed. Seemed to have more of a bar/club vibe at first but we quickly realized that this was because there was a large group of people there celebrating a birthday. Theme was cave man (??) - almost everyone was wearing some sort of animal print. They were loud and took up most of the space. The other tables/patrons looked uncomfortable and out of place. We were seated quickly and our waitress was pleasant. The food was meh. Two of us ordered lemon pepper dry wings and when they came out they were weirdly breaded and tasted like they had a churro topping- very sweet and sugary. We thought maybe the kitchen mistook the sugar for salt. We asked waitress and she said that that is the owners recipe. Wasn’t terrible, but definitely not something either of us would order again. Another person ordered the Kailua pork hoagie and said it tasted like it came from a can. Other food ordered was just okay. Wouldn’t go back.

Sweetie was just that, super nice, great service and the poke nachos were perfect. Along with a pineapple high noon was exactly what I needed. Will definitely be back. A beautiful introduction to Kona. Mahalo 🫶🏼
