Convenient location, right off the highway and about 15 min drive to downtown Des Moines. The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean, and they have a decent bar/coffee bar with some breakfast food options for purchase. I'm not sure if the hotel was empty, but this was the quietest hotel I've ever stayed in! Didn't hear one other guest, the elevator, ice machine, maids, etc, at all during a 3 night stay. The room also had the darkest black out curtains ever.

There were no problems with the hotel itself, but with staff (or lack of it). We pulled into the back parking lot and there was garbage strewn all over the lot. There were 2 garbage cans and one cardboard box overflowing with pizza boxes, Starbucks cup and other assorted food waste. When we told the receptionish at the front desk she was somewhat flippant about it, however, when we returned from dinner it was all cleaned up. This was not a good first impression. Hotel can be difficult to find from the main road. Lobby seems to have been recently updated, it looks quite modern and has plenty of small tables and electrical outlets. The guest rooms themselves are pretty old and tired looking, although on the plus side they have balconies overlooking the courtyard. Staff members are friendly and helpful, although a lot of amenities seem to be unavailable (no water in the lobby, pool is closed, no housekeeping etc.).
