Great Caterers of Iowa

We used Great Caterers for our wedding, and they were perfect! We had a wonderful tasting a few months back to make our menu decisions. The food was fresh and tasted great, and they accommodated incredibly well for both allergies and kids meals. They cut and plated our cake that we brought in from another vendor, bussed tables, and refilled waters at our tables. On top of that, you will not find better pricing than theirs! During the event, we did not notice them whatsoever as they did their thing and we would highly recommend them!

Great Caterers of Iowa catered our industry event yesterday and I couldn't be happier with them. The quality of the food was excellent, I overhead several people talking about how good it was, and I personally thought it was delicious too. Our other board member who set it up said that working with them was very easy too, especially compared to others we've worked with in the past. We'll definitely be using them again.

From the very beginning the entire Great Caterers of Iowa team went above and beyond! We messed up our schedule and showed up to someone else's tasting. They still accommodated us and provided us some great food to try. We were sold! They curated a unique menu to our family and even used a family recipe and special spices we provided. Joni gave us a call about a week before the wedding to talk through every detail. She cares deeply about the wedding experience and is serious about dietary restrictions and needs. Highly recommend!

Greater Caterers of Iowa was the catering company hired for my clients wedding day today, and they were phenomenal. Not only was the food excellent, but they were ready ahead of schedule & EXTREMELY efficient getting 260 people through a buffet line. In hundreds of weddings I have worked as a wedding planner, I have never seen a buffet line move so quickly. The appetizers were unique and very tasty, and the staff were wonderful to work with. I would definitely recommend them as a caterer for any events, but especially weddings!

We recently worked with Joni and her team at Great Caterers of Iowa for our wedding, and our experience began with a wonderful tasting that immediately won us over. The food was delicious, and just as importantly, Joni and her staff made us feel genuinely welcomed and at home.

One of the standout aspects of working with Great Caterers of Iowa was their flexibility in creating custom desserts we loved. On the wedding day, the staff was attentive and ensured we, as the bride and groom, were well taken care of — even saving appetizers for us, which we truly appreciated.

That said, there were a couple of issues worth noting. Unfortunately, one of our guest tables was inadvertently missed during dinner service and did not receive their meals until a guest brought it to the staff's attention. While the team was sincerely apologetic and acted quickly to remedy the situation, it did impact the dining experience for some of our guests.

Additionally, for those considering family-style service, we recommend having a clear discussion about presentation. We were surprised to see the food served in disposable containers (styrofoam/plastic), which did not match the elegant experience we envisioned. Several guests also mentioned receiving smaller portions and needing to request additional servings rather than being proactively offered more.

Overall, we would still recommend Great Caterers of Iowa. The food and service had many highlights, and with clear communication and attention to details around service expectations, they can be a great choice for special events.

As we talked for a long time about the meal we wanted on the wedding day, we knew for sure that we didn’t want to be traditional. However, we also didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg either. When we found Great Caterers of Iowa, we saw they had breakfast and a very reasonable price per plate. Working with Joni and Lori was amazing and so easy! They allowed me to make up my own menu for wedding day that gave us everything we hoped for on our wedding day! Breakfast was a hit and tasted so good! They brought our vision for breakfast foods to life and again, for the best price! They were perfect choice and they have so many other food packages available to choose from!

As a wedding planner, I know how important catering is to the guest experience—and working with these guys is always a guaranteed win. Their team is professional, organized, and truly understands the flow of a wedding day. From setup to service, everything is executed with precision and care, which makes my job so much easier and ensures a seamless experience for the couple and their guests.

The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Whether it’s a plated dinner or a buffet-style service, the presentation is beautiful and the flavors are consistently rave-worthy. I’ve had guests and couples tell me it was the best wedding meal they’ve ever had—and I’d have to agree!
