The hibachi and service were excellent. Food was fresh, cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. Portions were average and the ginger sauce was good. We were surprised that there was no YumYum sauce offered, but it was fine. The building is old, furnishings and carpet very tired. The place needs new carpet and tables. I was concerned that if the dining space looked like this, that the food prep probably did too. The price was good for the food.

We love Teppanyaki and always consider it a treat when we go. So, when we found out Boise had a location while visiting my sister, we were excited to celebrate my husband’s birthday there. Unfortunately, this experience was far from what we were used to, and I regret not trusting my instincts early on.

As we pulled into the parking lot on a Saturday night, I was surprised to see the lot nearly empty. The building looked old and run-down, but we decided to give it a chance, thinking maybe it was just quiet that evening. Walking inside, the concerns grew—the carpets were dirty, the ceilings were in terrible condition, and the grill top had remnants of food from the previous cook still stuck to it. In hindsight, we should have left, but we decided to stay based on some positive Google reviews.

The service was disappointing. Our waiter lacked the charm and energy we’re used to at other Teppanyaki locations. However, we were still holding out hope for the food. When the chef finally came out (seemingly the only one working that night), he was not only cooking for us but also preparing a to-go order at the same time. Throughout the cooking, he kept walking away and leaving our food unattended on the grill, which led to it being overcooked. To make matters worse, he repeatedly checked his phone while cooking—extremely unsanitary.

The food itself was dry, lacked flavor, and was a huge letdown. For $100, we left feeling both hungry and disappointed. This was not the Teppanyaki experience we know and love, and sadly, we won’t be returning to this location.

You could probably say that Tepanyaki is a historical site for Boise. They have been around forever. After serving in a restaurant like this for almost 20 years, I'll try not to be harsh. Overall, the food was ok. The rice was left in the grill too long and was overcooked. I didn't enjoy the crispy pieces of the over cooked rice. The way the chef was cutting up the filet in 10 thousand different directions was criminal. He did prepare it well but the craftsmanship of being a chef wasn't there. The salmon did have a good char on it which I appreciated. The shrimp varied in size but were still still good. The service was unbearable. They don't smile at you. Ask you how things are going. They don't even check up on you during the cooking process. It's quite entertaining since they have quite a few people working. The chefs did a good job entertaining. It was a decent meal but not my first choice if someone suggested going to a Hibachi joint.
