“Went for a quick bite before heading back to Chicago. We had the salmon with rice. The Salmon was ok. The rice was hard, undercooked and waa not good. The mash potatoes needed butter and salt/pepper. The dinner roll was good. I wanted an Arnold Palmer and never received. I wasnt impressed with the.coleslaw. Brandy was patient and tried. Go with the burgers...“

“They have excellent ice cream items and their food is not bad either. Their take out service could be improved because it is not uncommon to have lines of cars waiting for over half an hour to pick up their items. In such a case it would be advised that people park their car and walk inside because at that point they can often get their order filled in 5 to 10 minutes instead of possibly 35 to 40 minutes. So if it is a hot day outside and you are looking for something cool give them a try for their fantastic ice cream flavors.“

“I came through here on my way to see someone far out of town because I wanted something to tide me over until I ate later that day. I made a miscalculation. I saw the 1/2 lb double cheeseburger and thought "This is a local burger joint so this is gonna set me back a bit. But I'll spend the money and try it anyway." Of course, I paired it with a large fry, which I figured wouldn't be that great and probably lukewarm. Basically, I had no real hopes for a fantastic meal. Especially being a local place (there's another one in Mattoon, too). I got to the drive-thru (one of the windows, btw. There's one on each side ala Rally's) and the girl was really friendly. I was so taken back by the price (just over $9 for both items) that I accidentally handed her the wrong card. I figured this would be a minimum $15. I know at McDonald's it would've been. But this food was miles beyond any other fast food restaurant I'd visited in a long time. The burger was gigantic and the fries were spilling over into the bag. That's what I get for trusting my eyes over my stomach. The food was hot...nearly too hot to eat and I waited not more than a minute for it. If McHughs went national, Hardee's would be gone. My go-to fast food used to be Hardee's monster burger. Now I know what it'll be instead. Excellent experience.*In all my words, I forgot to mention the quality of the food. It was excellent! Definitely one of the better burger and fries combos I've had.“

“Every college town in America has an Ike's Bar and Grill. There's a good reason for that, and Ike's in Charleston, Illinois does more than a sufficient job of filling the gap when you're looking for a cold beer and a reasonably priced, tasty burger. The service is prompt and friendly. The place has a hint of nostalgia, since it's been there forever, so the atmosphere is really cool. There's nothing shocking about the menu... sandwiches, burgers and a handful of tasty fried appetizers. We had the mozzarella sticks which are definitely a cut above the average cheese stick. The owners of Ike's could easily run to Gordon's food and stock their freezers with that type of product, but instead, they choose to step it up in with the quality of their food, and it shows. We dropped our daughter off for her second year of college, and we discovered Alex last year when she was a freshman. It's now pretty much a stop for us every time we're down there. I guess at night, Ike's turns into the university's Greek bar, but in The early evenings or late afternoons, it's filled with regulars who understand the value of a dollar, and appreciate a really tasty sandwich. My wife and I each had two ice, cold beers, some mozzarella sticks, two burgers, and a basket of onion rings, and the whole dinner cost us under $50 with a tip.“
