Avli on The Park is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the park with a light and bright atmosphere. The Greek salad is amazing, the cocktails are spectacular, and the $25 three-course menu is a hit. Customers praise the lovely ambiance, good food, and excellent service, though the acoustics can make the space feel noisy at times. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes, including the popular lamb chops, chicken souvlaki, and grilled octopus, with some guests mentioning that the lamb chops can occasionally be nervy and fatty, but usually remain one of the best choices. The Greek white wine in the blue bottle is phenomenal, and the staff goes above and beyond—celebrating special occasions with gestures like signing cards or sending glasses of champagne. The hostess, Athena, makes guests feel special and helps with reservations.
Recent visitors enjoyed dining on the rooftop, sampling various appetizers and mezes such as octopus, mussels, lamb, tsatziki, calamari, saganaki, and Greek salad, before a good dinner. Portions are small but filling, though some purists noted that the Greek salad had few cucumbers and tomatoes, and the spanakopita was not the light flaky phyllo wrapped delight it should be, but a dough-wrapped spinach hot pocket. Guests also appreciated the good Greek wines, ouzo, and tasty cocktails.
Many guests found the food delicious and the rooftop patio perfect for a meal, especially during a weekend visit. The service stood out, with a server who guided the group outside of their culinary comfort zones and recommended fantastic dishes, making the experience memorable. While some entries like hummus and tzatziki were just okay and mocktails had mixed reviews due to basil flavor, desserts such as the Caldara were highly praised, described as dreamy. Overall, Avli on The Park offers amazing Greek-inspired food, wonderful cocktails, and a beautiful setting just five minutes from Millennium Park. Prices are very reasonable, and service is spot on, making it a popular choice for a memorable dining experience.
