Easy 5 stars. Dirks has the freshest seafood I have ever had in Chicago, and in general. Dirk himself is often at the shop and could not be more friendly and knowledgeable. When he is not there, his staff fills in quite well. Despite growing up in NY, Dirks is home to my favorite gravlax. We visit weekly and are always not only satisfied, but amazed.
Dirk's has wild caught fish, as well as a range of specialty cheese dips and seafood salads. Plus a really nice selection of fancy crackers. My favorite thing though, is how great the guys behind the counter are. They're super into it, and you can tell they love what they do. Friendly, Chicago custermer service, at it's best. GET IN THERE. This is the place.

Great place to buy fish but also to get sushi! The sushi is fresh and at such a great price. The menu isn't overly extensive and the in-dining atmosphere is what you would expect for a store but it's a hidden gem at how good the food is.The staff are nice and helpful.
