Meeting House Tavern Gay Bar • $
5025 N Clark St, Chicago

“Very clean and aesthetically pleasing bar. Well lit and seems like they have almost nightly shows ranging from Bingo, to RuPauls Drag Race showings to even a burlesque show.

They are a full service bar but what I loved is they had a fairly range non-alcoholic section of CBD and THC infused drinks.

Two levels make finding a seat easy without the hassle of taking someone’s spot or sitting next to strangers.“

The Closet Gay Bar • $
3325 N Broadway, Chicago

“My go-to for a drink and chat in the neighborhood. Generally a chill sapphic vibe, lightly enforced by stern bartending. If you provide a tip and don’t ask for bud light it should be ok. Fun music. No issues as a trans person. Probably the least-obnoxious queer bar in the neighborhood. I have not attended later than midnight, so no idea what it’s like then.“

Jeffery Pub Gay Bar • $
7041 S Jeffery Blvd, Chicago

“Rather than rally support for one of the VERY FEW Chicago South Side venues catering to the LGBT+ population and its allies - that has managed to stay in business for DECADES - it’s so much easier to bash it. Dysfunction Breeds Discord. I appreciate the resilience of the business and its long history of providing a safe space for mainly Black LGBT+ folks on the South Side. It’s never been upscale but I don’t think it was intended to be. Back in the day, it was a rare watering hole for locals and none ever worried about murder on or near the premises because the neighborhood was quite decent. No more. While I think it’s unfortunate young people no longer have the JP as a convenient spot, they still have the other spot not too far away. I applaud the JP owner for his bold move to make the space safer AND attract patrons who are not caught up in the rap sway. I plan to continue patronizing the business, unless and until I’m given reason to no longer do so.“

“Rolled into Replay Lakeview last Friday night and grabbed a $6 draft, a bourbon cocktail, and tossed a few quarters into the vintage pinball and Street Fighter machines. The vibe’s loud, funky, and dead‑on that Lakeview barcade feel, free popcorn, friendly bartenders, and a solid craft‑beer lineup. Spent a couple hours goofin’ around, felt like a proper throwback with buds. Would definitely swing by again for another round of games and brews.“

Progress Bar Chicago Gay Bar • $$
3359 N Halsted St, Chicago

“I've never have a bad time here -- it does get very busy because they plays some of the best music in Boystown so give yourself some extra time incase there are lineups to get in or at the bar, but overall the venue is pretty, the staff is friendly, and the drinks are yummy! Check out the back bar area when it's open - there's more room there so it's less crowded on busy weekends.“
