I walk into a coffee shop and ask for a double espresso served for here. I am given a paper cup with the espresso inside. When I clarify that I specified it was for here, the nice lady with red hair then pick’s up a glass espresso cup & then proceeds to pour the espresso from the paper cup into the glass.
This is the exact purpose I walk into a coffee shop, to get a hot shot of espresso poured into a paper cup, then poured into a glass cup. Great!
To keep it short, be better barista. :)

Ground up on Erie St has always been a great place to congregate and sip on great coffee and tea beverages. Ruth served me on Christmas Eve and I have nothing but great things to say. She was very informative on the food and beverages when I had questions. I felt welcome and invited to stay and work on my laptop while I ate and drank my purchases. The timing in prep both for the food and drink was very timely and I was ultimately still drawn to talking to Ruth even when my order was ready. My family loves the Erie location and myself like to venture to different cafes in the area and the city but I will always argue that Ground Up is one of the best. Thanks and Happy Holidays!

I always pick up my coffee beans from here because they’re consistently perfect: fresh, flavorful, and far better than anything I’ve found in Chicago. The owner, Alex, is genuinely one of the kindest people in the business. He cares about what he sells and about the people who walk through his door, and that really shows. Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves good coffee and great service.

Ground Up Coffee & Bites is an absolute Chicago gem! The staff is genuinely some of the best…friendly, fast, and they always nail the coffee. It’s the kind of place you pop into once and suddenly it becomes your go-to because everything just tastes right. The bites are amazing too, which only makes it harder to pretend you’re “just grabbing a coffee.”
If you’re anywhere near the area, do yourself a favor and stop in.
