Gosh I wish I liked this place more but…. The beer was flat, the food was hit or miss and- despite being one of four occupied tables— our waitress never even came to see if everything was ok once we got our food. The atmosphere was also weird because all the furniture felt like it was from a hospital or college cafeteria.

Kapitan is a hidden gem! Food was so flavorful and amazing! The tomato rice platter was delicious and the duck buns were fantastic! Their menu is large and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The stand out items were the Lobak and Nyonya Curry Laksa Lemak. We asked for recommendations, which was the right move because everything was spot on and it was going to be hard to decide what to order! Would definitely recommend this place. We'll be back with friends to try more of the menu. It is worth coming back to Kapitan!

We loved the kaya toast with soft boiled egg so much that we ordered a second round. The last time we had kaya jam was when we visited SG back in 2015! Seems to be the only place you could get it in chicago. We also bought kaya jam to take home! Very good service and we will be back to try other dishes. The server was very nice and attentive.

We had a wonderful meal here last night! My group was all new to Malay food and our server was happy to walk us through the menu and make suggestions (while accommodating a few dietary restrictions). Everything was delicious! Can’t wait to go back.

I have been here a few times and always order the Singaporean noodles with beef. I've not tasted anything like it, and it's delicious. Super cute inside the restaurant if you wish to eat there, and the food stays very fresh for takeout orders. Don't be dissuaded by the lack of crowds, this place is one of the best!

My to-go place whenever I can’t decide what to eat! Always sooo delicious! I love the grilled pork belly, fruit salad as appetizers! The laksa OMG sooooo good! Also tried the hainan chicken so juicy and delicious as well! Love this place, the price is fair! Also, they are pet friendly, I can take my dog with me sitting in the first floor!I can’t understand why this place is not as popular as it deserves! Staff always so nice! The second item in the coffee section, Malaysia coffee maybe? on the menu is good too!

The place is very unique unlike other restaurants I've been too and the food reminds of home, the service overall was pretty good, nice people and good service.

Food was mediocre. A cold night but the restaurant was frigid. Service was terrible. With the restaurant barely full you would think that the waitstaff would be happy for the business. However both servers could not be bothered to be friendly to customers.

The inside of the restaurant was decorated super well. Service was excellent as well. A bit of a basic order (also not Malaysian), but the honey walnut shrimp was SO good. They didn't use walnuts but instead candied pecans and it worked extremely well. I was less enthusiastic about the Nasi Lemak, which was good but not amazing. The te tarik was good, but it's alsk really hard to mess that drink up. Mango sticky rice was too sour for my taste.

We were visiting from the east coast and were overwhelmed by both the flavor of the food and the eager service of the waiter and host. The decor was impressive too. This food is a MUST if you are anywhere in Chicago!

Food was good, especially the beef satay. Didn't like the chicken as much though it was still decent. The interior was nice.

Perfect date night spot! We got roti to share - so delicious but you get charged almost double for more than one piece! I loved my dish, cannot find the name but it was noodles with the most delicious coconut curry and my date got a rice dish that she said was a bit dry. We were the only ones at the time so the service was great LOL! We will be returning!
