This hotel is so beautiful and I love the experience. I booked May 17th during Cowboy Carter Beyonce weekend concert and was supposed to stay at JW Marriott which I had reserved and planned for however the rooms were overbooked and there was no space for me. Management did speak with me and informed me not to worry and that they can accommodate me 4-5 minutes away at The Gwen Luxury hotel which was gorgeous. I was on the run the entire time so I did not get to enjoy everything there but I would love to come back to experience this hotel and the brunch event. I highly recommend this hotel for a birthday, anniversary, wedding or special occasion it is top tier and outstanding.

Terrible staff and very uncomfortable beds. They claim it’s a luxury hotel but I would rather stay at a Marriott than this expensive place that offers terrible service and amenities

Made reservations with a group of my girls to have dinner that turned into into a whole dinning experience with exceptional service. Chef James presented every single item and brought out a fine selection for us to try from starters to entrées & even dessert! My favorite things from the menu were the bread & spreads along with the salmon entree- DELICIOUS. Our bartender Tanairy offered a selection of cocktails she recommended to try & did NOT disappoint. Usually I get a whiskey sour but she offered a twist to try a Mezcal sour instead & it has changed the game for me- my new go to drink! Last thing i want to say is the attention to detail was on par. One of the girls ordered a hot tea & i was really blown away with the way it was presented. It wasn’t what i expected- they brought out the tea as a whole set as a self pour with cute little honey jars to add to taste. Overall, the Gwen exceeded my expectations & i can’t wait to come back again. 10/10.

Decided to take my girlfriends to Upstairs at the Gwen after their commute from out of state and it was such a great experience! We were greeted with such warm welcomes from the staff and immediately walked to our reserved table. Upon seated our waitress Maria did a great job at making sure we had everything we needed. We all started with a round of Mezcal Sours by the beautiful bartender Tanairy which were so delicious! Chef James came out and introduced himself to our group which was really nice, it made the whole experience that much more memorable. He walked us through some of the items on the menu and was very thorough with what was new and what were some house staples. I must say the Brussels sprouts and the salmon were my favorites. Chef James, Corey and Nate were all so kind and their hospitality was 10/10. Tany’s cocktails were the cherry on top of our spectacular dinner. If you ever find yourself in Chicago make sure to check out Upstairs at The Gwen, I can’t wait to return!

I had an exceptional dining experience at the restaurant. The chef James culinary skills were truly impressive, crafting dishes that were both flavorful and beautifully presented. The bartender tanairy also deserves praise for creating delicious and innovative cocktails. The combination of skilled professionals in the kitchen and behind the bar made for a memorable evening. Highly recommended! I will be coming back for sure!

First time visiting the upstairs at the Gwen, while in Chicago for a girls weekend. Upon our arrival, my party of four was greeted with warm welcomes and the option of dining in doors or out on the rooftop. However even with the fire place well lit we decided to enjoy an indoor dinner. Our bartender of the evening Tanairy walked us through the cocktail menu and ultimately gave us the recommendation of a Mezcal Sour. Tany was able to take the traditional amaretto sour and transformed it into a modern day drink with a twist that catered to the taste we were looking for. The starter we ordered the Breads and Spreads and the whipped ricotta with honey was delicious. When entrees made their way to the table, each dish was presented by James the Executive Chef, Corey the Sous-Chef and Nate their additional cook. The handsome and cheerful trio introduced each entrée, and what it took in preparation of each meal. I personally enjoyed that the knowledgeable chef and his team explain the significance of each dish, it made the dinner feel that much more unique and a personalized dining experience. The dishes, just as attractive as the men were phenomenal! The star of the show was the Seared Scallops, highly recommend. The gentlemen then brought out a beautiful assortment of desserts and detailed each dish for my friends and I. The whole playful, knowledgeable, warm welcoming encounter by Tanairy, James, Corey, Nate and other behind the scenes team made this dinner monumental for my girls trip. Over all this was by far the best dining experience I have had in Chicago.

Michael T was awesome! He helped me with before I knew there was a problem. Great job. I was looking for hot tea but he not only helped me but explained all the options.

I stopped for a drink at the Upstairs at the Gwen. Michael O. Was very warm and made me feel welcome as a solo diner. He checked on me appropriately-timing wise to allow me to take advantage of the lux happy hour.

I went with my mother to eat breakfast at a so called “luxury hotel” the hostess mentioned that the breakfast was almost over but we had a few minutes to order. As we looked through the menu a male server with a very unsanitary beard took forever to take care of us. When he got to our table he yanked the menus out of our hands. And brought us the lunch menus and rudely said it was no longer breakfast hour. Even though the manager was very apologetic about the situation and gave us free food I wanted to share the experience about this awful male server with a horrible attitude. It’s a very nice hotel but servers like this should not be hired at luxury hotels if they can’t give out a luxury service

We came to this spot for pre-dinner drinks for a bachelorette weekend and Kelly and Kayla were AMAZING! Their service was wonderful and they made the start of our weekend so fun by being incredibly kind and welcoming! The bride was very happy with the experience.

The hostess, Kelly, made the whole experience 10x better! Very clean, spacious, outdoor patio, friendly staff, great craft cocktails and food, but Kelly stole the spotlight! She was sooo welcoming, sweet, kind, caring, and thoughtful. I’d go back just to have service like that again, very rare these days. Thank you Kelly!!! ?????

Spent three nights in Chicago with our best friends. Our grand finale was beautiful cocktails and share plates on the beautiful rooftop of The Gwen. The drinks were unique the flavours carefully curated and we had beautiful service from Kayla. Highly recommend for a special evening with special friends.

I was asked to rate my experience of Upstairs at the GWEN. These comments below are my own experience and account of the impression I had of dining at your establishment: My brother and I took my Mom out on Wednesday May 10th for her 59th Birthday that day. It was a beautiful day outside, the food was good, the staff were hospitable and possessed a friendly demeanor while registering and escorting us to our seat. However, the main impetus to take the time to write this longer review is because of our Dining Server Ms. Meredith. Ms. Meredith was outstanding and understood the true essence of customer service in my opinion. As a medical professional, I believe service is key in my line of work and I'm sure it is key in the Restaurant and Hospitality industry. Ms. Meredith's demeanor was very kind, thorough, and composed. Simply put, upon first meeting her, I was impressed with these attributes as they are rare sometimes in society. Ms. Meredith quickly adjusted to the many questions my party had of the dining menu by offering a meal recommendation to purchase based off what I told her about the foods we wanted to experience. Once made aware of the occasion to visit the GWEN Upstairs, Meredith wished my Mom a genuine Happy Birthday. Meredith often came by our table to ask if we had any particular needs for dining and asked about how we liked the food. And Finally.... When I privately asked Meredith if The GWEN does complimentary dessert for Birthday individuals, she went out of her way to ask her chefs/manager about bringing my Mom something. Meredith surprised us all that day by bringing out a nicely plated small chocolate dessert arrangement that said Happy Birthday on the plate. This really sealed the deal and made our experience of celebrating Mom's Birthday Fantastic as Meredith didn't have to do that. Please Give High Regards to Meredith's superiors and Meredith herself for a job well done in customer service and thoroughness. My first time meeting her that day left me with a good impression and I WILL DEFINITELY be coming back to your establishment with my work/ training colleagues. I recommend you train all of your staff on how to make a customer feel good about patronizing your business through the attributes, resourcefulness, and work ethic Ms. Meredith displayed that day. Every staff was generally cordial that day, an overall great experience. If you so desire to reach me to learn more about my experience on May 10th let me know. Kindly, MGIII

We stopped in for a drink and cannot say enough good things about the property and staff. Shout out to Mary Claire, Jason, Kelli, and Daviel! Everyone was so friendly and accommodating and the rooftop terrace was a great way to end our night.
