Union Dairy Reviews
The food was great.. probably the best blt I’ve ever had.. there was a young boy in there working and was so kind and accommodating to everyone you could tell he loved his job and had a fantastic work ethic! However, the service was slow and you could tell some of the kids working weren’t properly trained.. there was a group of people that walked out during our visit also because they weren’t happy with the service!
Love the Union Dairy ❤️ great food & great ice cream

Union Dairy is an old-fashioned ice cream parlor that has been a favorite among locals for over 100 years. It offers a variety of ice cream flavors, including Pretzel City, Turtle Sundae, Hot Fudge Sundae, and Rocky Road, as well as tasty food items like the Willie Burger and Chicago Style Dog. Customers enjoy the decent chocolate soda, although some wish it came in a bigger glass. The atmosphere is great, making visitors feel like they have stepped into simpler times, with vintage diner vibes that are authentic and charming. Pull up a seat on one of the shiny chrome stools along the ice cream bar and enjoy the experience.
While the staff is known for being accommodating and providing wonderful recommendations, some customers have noted slow service and that not all staff members seem properly trained. Despite this, the staff handles large groups well, ensuring everyone has a good time. Many visitors appreciate that the ice cream comes from a supplier in Wisconsin, ensuring good quality, even though it is no longer made in-house. Recent changes, such as the use of disposable cups and possible alterations to the hot fudge and syrup, have raised concerns about maintaining the high-quality ingredients and welcoming atmosphere that Union Dairy is known for. Families often enjoy their time here, especially after seeing the famous Lincoln Douglas Debate Statue. Visitors also love the vintage 1950's diner vibe, and some mention that the service can be surprisingly good, with staff working hard to accommodate large parties with cheerfulness and professionalism. Overall, Union Dairy remains a classic spot for ice cream lovers and a true gem of Freeport.
