very nice venue. it would most probably have had a nice ambience if we did not have the unfortunate incidence of having a group of loud obnoxious people (the type of people it would be nice to see turned away) get there right before us. What ever happened to dressing for dinner, or dress codes for fine dining? This is one of those laces that would really be nice if it had one. you pay for the experience, and that experience is lessened by those individuals that do not/ cannot act civilized, let alone respectable.

We were there at the end of breakfast/brunch, so service was rather quick. Our server, Toni, was pleasant and even provided a brief history of the restaurant/hotel. Food portions were decently large, given the tourist trap expectation of downtown Galena.

We celebrated a 75th birthday and were greeted with balloon and confetti! The wine was excellent, the food was delicious, and the service professional & attentive. We especially enjoyed the piano music and the ambiance of a first-class big city restaurant. Will definitely recommend it to friends & family!

Be sure to book your stay during their Sunday Breakfast buffet! My favorite will always be their hashbrown casserole and a nice slab of medium rare brisket? pair that with an orange mimosa and that's heaven right there

The ambience was lovely. The service was excellent. I ordered the stuffed chicken breast and unfortunately the chicken was very tough, although the flavor was good. We all loved the bread. Thank you for the enjoyable entertainment.

The hotel/restaurant ambiance was very nice. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. Wished we would have paced ourselves better because food came out SO fast! One entree was a ribeye and I had the delicious shrimp special. Will recommend and return sometime.

Food wasn't as over the top as the restaurant was. Went for brunch on Christmas Eve and they had it all decked out with a HUGE Christmas tree and it really got me in the holiday spirit :) The hotel is really neat and I'd love to go back and stay sometime.

Wonderful place -- this was our first visit. Historic hotel, vintage feel, comfortable dining room, plenty of history, excellent food, service was not too bad given packed house that night. Better than we thought it might be given the full house we saw around us. Filet was outstanding. Parking fairly convenient. We would go back.
Really wanted to give a positive review, for our group of six, service was slow, one of ribeyes undercooked. Took an exceptionally long to get the bill and then checkout. I will give them the benefit of the doubt, overall the entrees were enjoyed. Seem to have nice wine list. Tighten up on the service piece and this a cool historical space to dine.

Everybody working together was awesome. Thank you for the experience. Be sure you eat there. It's one of Galena's best kept secrets.

We always enjoy our meals at the General. Maybe a little peppermint ice cream would be nice as an option to the dessert cart. Jasmine rice side was bland and dry. Otherwise most excellent and a great server. Thank you!

I was there on Veteran's day 2023. My family waited 15 minutes to be seated. We then waited another 25 minutes before someone brought us water. She told us that someone will be over shortly. We waited another 10 minutes. We left without any service of any kind besides the water. We watched other customers get seated and waited on. We tried to get the staffs attention but they chose to ignore our table. We ended up going to Culvers where we received a warm welcome and prompt service. This is how you treat an Afgan Vet on Veteran's Day? Shameful!
