“Its a low key spot. Honestly surprised of how simplisticly delicious everything was. The veggie panini, the breaded shrimp, the onion rings, the southwest egg rolls... all spot on. There was only one gal on so service was a bit slow. My server/bartender was super down to earth too!!“

“Every now and then I have friends I'll visit in West Davenport. After work one day I was planning to meet with a few of them but unfortunately our plans fell through on my way driving to the place we were meeting. Since I was already nearly in the area, I decided to impulsively stop at Probstei. It had been recommended on the Quad Cities Subreddit, so I was eager to try them anyways.This place is decidedly not the normal sort of venue I frequent. There's a large sign of sorts on the building exterior proclaiming "welcome bikers". To clarify, I am not a biker, nor does my general appearance reflect any sort of associated stereotype for someone who chooses to ride a motorcycle.The interior is fairly small. There's a bar that runs the length of most of the space, a single pool table, and a few other tables. The floor is a combination of wood laminate and pretty old looking carpet, while the overhead consists of primarily plain drop ceiling. Lighting is low - a combination of a few accent strips and the various neon beer signs in the interior. It's quiet and easy on the eyes - I liked it.I opted for the patty melt on the menu with a side of fries. Both were alright. The only thing I was a little bummed about was the bread - it was advertised as rye, but ended up being white bread. Still, it was greasy and delicious.Of further note is the eclectic patio area around the side of the building. There's a variety of seating, including a few picnic tables, individual chairs, and even benches of the size children would likely use. It looks like a nice place to hang out during the warmer months.This is well away from home for me, so I probably won't be back. If you're in the area and need a quiet place to crash and enjoy a greasy bar meal, this might be for you. “Was expecting more of a restaurant type environment that's on me, but it's a pretty good size bar. They have the weirdest deep fryer that's entirely enclosed and spits the cooked food out the side into a tray. The bartender was great and friendly, and despite burning my mouth a bit on the jalapeños poppers i could still tell the food was great, definitely on my list of places to go again.“

“We were seated very quickly and the waitress came out in about 5 minutes, took our drink order, brought it in about 10 but NEVER seen her again. Finally after 30 minutes of waiting we asked for a new server. They moved us to a new server and he was fantastic (wish I could remember his name). The sad part is the waitress didn’t have many tables and just kept disappearing. Anyways, she lost out on a $65 dollar tip. My husband had the meatloaf and said it was horrible!!! And he eats anything! River House has gone downhill since we were last there about year and half ago. No wonder they weren’t that busy last night and we got seated immediately“
“We stopped in for supper. I had the grilled tenderloin and my wife had the chicken sandwich with waffle fries. Everything was cooked well with great seasoning. Their house sauce is very good-somewhat tangy and you can taste the bourbon flavoring. The food order came out quick even though the place was busy. “First time I've been there in 30 years, fish was always a tradition on Friday and Saturday nights. Got there early, not a big crowd but only one server and he was running his a$$ off. Beer was cold, a gin and tonic was served in a pint glass with a soda straw (?). Anyway- the fish was a good as remembered- big chunks of fried cod. Fries were crispy and hot too. The dill sauce was good but seems like the recipe might have changed or memory remembered something "better". Would definitely recommend for the big food people, the all you can eat special is a bargain.“
