“Gpay didn't work and I had no physical card. After trying the Gpay several times, I gave up. The manager asked for the drink I was drinking back, lol. I got in the car, saw my wallet in the seat and decided not to go back in. “Greetings my Foodzies, tonight we decided to try a restaurant that we have passed by numerous times. The great escape on Irving at 9540 w Irving Park rd. in Schiller Park.
This is a unique restaurant that has been around for years. The property has a rich history (see the picture I have posted with the story).
The restaurant’s bar area is very rustic with a bar that was hand carved in 1889, very impressive. TVs have been added to draw in a people who want to eat and have a drink while watching TV. Also a gaming section in the bar area.
Music is old school 50-60s, our server Mareen was pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable.
We started with Grilled Calamari it was grilled nicely but could have used a few more seconds to get a little more char flavor. It was also missing the signature balsamic. Glenda chose the Rigatoni in Vodka sauce with chicken; the chicken was scarce and the sauce was not the traditional sauce it had an odd flavor, not terrible but not what we expected. With a cup of lentil soup, tasty but needed a little extra salt. I chose the baby back ribs and broasted chicken (these dishes they are known for) the chicken was very good, crispy skin and very juicy. The ribs were tender but a little dry. The BBQ sauce was the recipe is the recipe of the owner’s grandfather. It was a Kansas City type sweet sauce with a nice smoky flavor (as a first time patron we were given a bottle to take home). I had the baked French onion soup topped with mozzarella, I’m used to Gruyere, Swiss, or Gouda but ut was very good.

“This is not just your average bar. This is THEE Horseshoe Inn not just the horseshoe inn. There's a difference... This place has and is the epitome of history and mystery!! It's a place full of locals that you can only find here!! It's got a fascinating back story and a ton of not just local history but Chicago history.! This is one of the places that the Irish Mafia used to hang out in!!! A place where the murder mystery is alive and unsolved!!! You come to a place like this and you can feel the history, feel it in your soul!! You want to check this place out!!! Ask anyone here about the history and they will tell you straight out!! Are you in the mood for a drink??? Get it here!! Are you in the mood for a quick bite?? Well you can get it here too along with a nice fresh tap or bottle of what ever beer you like!!! So let me tell you that if you are a ghost hunter?? You can find some ghosts here!! Are you a ghost buster?? Don't come here because they like their ghosts!! I hope this helps!! “Hidden inside of a motel this location is clean but dated with battered furniture. This helps give it character, unless you are expecting something fancy to go with the prices. They aren't cheap but Uno is a Chicago area landmark. Our waitress was very friendly and made it a fun experience.

We had Pizza Skins as an appetizer. These are mashed potatoes with cheese and bacon on a deep dish pizza crust. It sounds strange but they are surprisingly good.

Their deep dish is more crust with less sauce, and I prefer it this way. Maybe the best deep dish I've had in years. All of the ingredients are balanced and the crust is perfect.”
